Are there fedi/mastodon options for creating private lil discussion enclaves a la chat groups/rooms? Perhaps using groups or lists (features I haven't really explored the functionality of)?
I am pondering gathering some folks for side discussion, out of the public eye, for deeper collective conversations.
So my conclusion from this exploration is there is nothing fedi right now that is easy for me and other mastodon folks to set up as a lil private chatting enclave, but it looks like more group features are in the works for mastodon.
@nanode ..this is actually a link to a great discussion re how calckey is like the secret love child of WordPress and twitter. It is not however illuminating re firefish and how channels work. Did you mean to send something else?

Main question is whether I can gather mastodon peeps in a firefish group/channel without everyone having to join firefish. It seems ya'll are federated in as much as I am talking to you from mastodon now, but it looks like firefish channels themselves don't federate? 🤔

If you say calckey (firefish) or mastodon what you mean is ActivityPub which is how they all intercommunicate.
I envision something like field of termite mounds (instances) connected to each other by a bunch of bridges (federation=who is/isn't connected to whom) the bridges themselves being made of activitypub.
But I am lost when trying to understand the individual mounds (mastodon, firefish, even pixelfed etc) - when they are connected, when they aren't, how they are connected...
@vlrny@nanode I don't understand it completely. There's some initial to-and-fro I know to start seeing messages from other instances but I'm fuzzy on the details.
