Extremely insecure Samba servers (tm)
But it's all Win3.1 supports... I think I might need to set up a "retro" VLAN with a stupidly insecure Samba bridge server in "any protocol goes" mode.

@philpem I didn’t realize (until @colinstu prevented me from doing an insecure SMB v1 configuration in Windows) that the Samba/SMB protocol was THAT old.

@DeltaWye @colinstu Yep. Around the win3 era it was called LanMan or NetBIOS. SMB turned up with Win95 and NT.

It's all gone Gilbert and Sullivan again. How camp. At least you can turn NET SEND off on WfWG3.11

Looks like I need an MDA monitor - or to modify this Motorola M1000-355 to take MDA video.
The big issue seems to be not having enough range on the H-Hold pot. It sometimes syncs up but there are two or three flashing cursors instead of just the one.

@philpem sounds like a bodge resistor would do the trick

@RavenLuni Aye probably. I need to get from 15kHz horizontal scan to 18.432kHz with a frame rate of 50Hz. Also the hsync is positive-going and the monitor wants negative, so I need to invert it.
Also seems like my Acorn AKF18 can sync to 18.4kHz MDA video so maybe I just need an adapter.

Good news! I found a decent scan of the Motorola M1000/M2000 monitor service manual!

I thought that part of my issue might be that the Motorola monitor wanted negative-going Hsync (MDA is positive-going). Sadly that's not the case.

Hopefully a resistor over R33 or R34 should speed up the horizontal scan .

Sadly a bodge resistor didn't get the little Motorola to sync - but the AKF18 was quite happy to, once I made an adapter.

Nipped the blue wire. Yellow and green isn't a bad combination for mono and highlighted text.

@philpem I miss net send.

@terrencefoxfur I do and I don't... I remember someone writing a batch file which sent a ton of messages in a loop and crashed the school network 🤣
