Professionals get highly irritated if one knows too much stuff on their field.

Was today at the pediatrician with the kid. When I said that I think the wound between his toes might be athletes food, because there was some fluorescence under UV light, he was kinda confused and asked me about my profession.

Just by getting informed I create often remarkably irritating unusual encounters. I take that as occasional confirmation that I am a bit different.

Take two notes. In this case, G# and A#, put chords around them. You might think it's quite simple and boring, but I don't think so. It can flow like water in a gentle river. You can take the idea in many different directions. https://youtu.be/mRQOuzeARos

I'm curious—how do we feel about any/all of the following labels? Are we ok with them? Offended by them? Have attitudes changed at all recently? I've noticed we don't all use the same vocabulary here.

• on the spectrum
• ASD
• has autism
• with autism
• is autistic
• Autistic
• Autist

One for the JFET experts - I'm repairing a vectorscope which has a blown input FET on channel A.
This is the input circuit - A and B are the same, and the A and B input FETs (BF244Bs) are called out as "matched pair".
What parameter do I need to measure and match?
I figured Idss but that doesn't seem to have cut it, as the A- and B-ch have an offset error between them.

RavenLuni,
@RavenLuni@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem Idss usually. If its not that look at VGS

Hypothesis to be discussed with the @actuallyautistic:

The high prevalence of in Autistics might be just the symptoms of an overstimulated life, misunderstood communications and lots of trauma that led to cPTSD.

Would also explain why ADHD meds very often don't work for Autistics - but certain antidepressants do.

What do you think?

RavenLuni,
@RavenLuni@furry.engineer avatar

@rebekka_m @hauchvonstaub @actuallyautistic Can you talk about what led you to this hypothesis? I'm AuDHD. I wasnt diagnosed till I was 26 but the medication was definitely a life changer for me. I went from not being able to hold down a job to being successfully self employed. I've also eaten meat my whole life. As for earliness of symptoms, I was a nightmare for teachers the second I started school (which I think is the usual pattern anyway) :p

Feeling pretty rattled after an interaction with a beggar but I guess even an NT would have trouble with this one:

  • walked by the first time

  • felt bad, so passed again and put what I had in my pocket in her cup (which happened to be £10)

  • saw her again later sheltering from the rain in a doorway and she called me over and thanked me which was fine but then she asked if I could give more and really started pleading.

Whats the moral here - are you not supposed to give people more than a certain amount?

I frequently have to re-read the same paragraph over and over again before it sinks in. It is really frustrating, and makes reading a book take forever. It even happens when I’m listening to an audio book.

Do you struggle with this?

@crashdoom I'm generally against automated moderation having been shadowbanned on other platforms for no reason I can identify. These scripts are never infallable nomatter how well intentioned. A computer can be trained to recognise keywords but it can never understand context.

Having said that, I do appreciate the urgency to do something. If you do go ahead with it, I would ask the following:

  • Make sure the user is informed of any action, never use shadowbans.

  • Make sure there is easy access to human review in the event mistakes do occur.
