@jwildeboer It is a big opportunity. But it’s going to waste by admins and their obsession with defederating any instance they don’t like. Just look at what is happening with #Lemmy now.
@jwildeboer i don’t think the #fediverse will replace or kill reddit fully, but it has proved that it can be a viable alternative, and for me at least, having viable alternatives is a crucial part of autonomy. i don’t want to use reddit, and i don’t want reddit to use me, so i consider it a victory that i have the opportunity to bring myself into a new community apart from reddit. and i think a lot of people feel the same way.
@jwildeboer And of those people now exploring ActivityPub, a relevant number of them are designers and devs who are already spinning up their brains on how this can be made even better.
