My latest pet : Replace the "free" sharing services with simple solution where one has full control of (a) data collection (b) data storage (c) data sharing/visualisation.

If you want to give this like alternative a go, I'd be happy for any and all comments:

For the out there:

  1. There is pre-built solution for locaiton sharing & collection using , but anything that can fire HTTP request would do
  2. There is prepared manual on how-to host your own data on
  3. Client is just a web app that can take the object and splash it on a map

We use sensors to the at home. It worked fine for the first few weeks, but now the triggers seem to fail randomly. 🤔 I need to look into this. Also, I'd like to be able to control them locally rather than via their cloud and saw that there are some tools available to do just that. 😎

Ah tiens je n'avais pas encore pensé à faire une synthèse vocale des messages que je reçois sur Signal quand je suis en voiture. Maintenant c'est fait.
Allez zou y'a plus qu'à tester.

What type of are you working on today? If none, are you doing any or of another type?

Generally curious what people are building today

Figured I'd wait til review was finished before sharing my latest article published on @medium with Level Up Coding! Nothing super fancy, but definitely a great little insight into creating small user interfaces with to daily IT tasks. Sometimes it's all you'll have at your disposal in a corporate environment! 😎 🖥 :microsoft: :terminal:

Feeling a bit sad about the “ruthlessly automate things” message from the last talk of day 1 at - I feel like there’s certainly value in having advocates share content, but too much automation is going to reduce the developer-to-developer connection and community empathy spoken about at the start of the day.

@andypiper I've now gone a touch backwards on the " everything" thing often favoured by "10X developers" and management. Similar to reducing dev to dev content I worry that automation can reduce people's [] understanding of the underlying actions, making people don't have to learn them, and risk running into trouble if it goes wrong and needs to be debugged/changed ... Unless adequate are in place, which they often aren't

Might be useful for my blog, GitHub releases and whatnot. 🤩

You usually want a separate virtual environment for your project. And it is quite annoying to activate it whenever you start your work on it.
Here is an example of how you can the activation of your env with Makefile. This makes it possible to just run make go to start your project in your automagically. You can also add a similar test target to run tests in the env you want by just running make tests.

Automating Manual Nextcloud Upgrades

The upgrade process never works for me and I always end up having to walk through the manual upgrade process step-by-step. After yet another failed update, I decided it was time to the process using .

Does anyone have a good resource for automating their bank accounts or investments in general?

I use Wealthfront which has some super basic automation but only within their own account/ecosystem. It's not all the things I want.

I'm looking for IFTTT for money basically.

I've looked into a few other systems that are a bit too complicated. Basically having to write full code which is a bit much.
