@sidereal We were the ones who set up a ton of foot-traps for #RCMP#CIRG & our best was filling 3 buckets of outhouse #poop & #trebucheting them at RCMP guys & dousing them with 💩 poop. I mooned their helicopter from #landback bridge an hour before I got arrested - for the 5th time, from same location. I kept going back because what #BCgovernment & shady sellout #Pacheedaht chief(not even from island & runs from me) says he speaks for everyone. POS lying #fucktard.
In 2017, an #RCMP unit called the Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG) was created to #police resource-related #protests in #BritishColumbia Since then, it’s been subject to #lawsuits and hundreds of #complaints . Critics argue that it’s a de facto private security force for resource companies.
So what exactly does #CIRG do? And who does it serve?
@asiny It should be illegal for #RCMP to keep investigating itself on citizens' complaints over unlawful & criminal actions & abuses of process. We, taxpayers, pay for RCMP paycheques & on hook for their lack of genuine investigations - huge conflicts of interest.
They're the same #CorporateMercenaries that I faced with fellow activists at 2 different protection camps. Our governments have given them millions to abuse badge power & violate international laws.
Reminder for ppl in #BC & #Canada & ppl outside of Canada who may have missed last few years of #Indigenous#resistance against corrupt crapitalism & violent #colonial corporate mercenaries on #Wetsuweten territory -
#BCgovernment w/support from #Trudeau federal govt, allowed #RCMP#CIRG to set up #illegal checkpoints in multiple places across their ancestral lands. My friends have to pass & be harassed by RCMP & ecocide industry ppl - to access their own lands & homes.
[The chiefs] denounced court injunctions that stopped Indigenous land defenders from protesting development, and called for the dismantling of the RCMP’s contentious Community-Industry Response Group (#CIRG)
Gitxsan Hereditary Chief Clifford Sampare said, “There’s no consideration for our traditional laws, and our law is to protect the land. When we try to go and protect our territories, they call a militia on us.”
