Well, it seems most of you would rather have dinner with Lt. Columbo than Adrian Monk. Out of the 62 people who took the poll, 85% picked Columbo, and 15% picked Monk.

So, tell me. Which fictional detective would you like to see go up against in my next "Who would you rather have dinner with?" poll?

The one with the most votes will go head-to-head against Columbo.

Tonight in 1968 — Peter Falk made his debut as COLUMBO in PRESCRIPTION: MURDER on NBC.

He would play the character for 35 years.

“He was perfect,” co-creator William Link said. "And then he got better.”

I started watching Columbo at the start of the pandemic (my Dad was a big fan of the show, so I had watched some of the later TV movies with him as a kid), but kind of dropped it. I thought I got farther, but I guess I stopped in the middle of season 3. Started watching again tonight with Robert Culp's third appearance as the murderer.

Mind you, my wife had never seen an episode of Columbo. She has now.

There's nothing better than watching go in for the proverbial kill. Another smarmy, rich asshole goes down (just watched the S3 episode "Publish or Perish").

Got any suggestions for #SciFi TV?

No horror, please, nor gritty dystopic tough guy stuff. Over it.

Recently I've enjoyed #Foundation, #TheGoodPlace, #StarTrek: Strange New Worlds. Caught up on #DoctorWho.

ST:SNW in particular really hit the spot. We can actually work together to fix things, ya know. (I know ya know :) )

I'd also consider some light mysteries with some style - big fan of #NeroWolfe and #Columbo for instance. Or heist stuff like #LeverageTV and #HustleTV

What tune did Columbo whistle in nearly every episode, especially when he was onto the killer?

Please boost for a wider audience

Just almost impeccable colour design in this episode of Columbo, Maybe the only tv series from the 1970s that I could recommend to people without caveat (I, Claudius comes close too)

In particular I would use the supermarket colour palette in a game any day.

Cute writing in this episode of .

Columbo: Los Angeles Police Department

Old Lady: Oh! Have we done something?!?

Columbo: No ma'am. Not that I know of

Old Lady: Are you with the vice squad? I remember having a good time

Columbo (almost breaks character laughing): No I'm not with the vice squad

Wanna write an episode of where Columbo is dealing with a death cult trying to summon Lovecraftian horrors from another dimension.

I would love to see a Columbo remake. John Cusack to play the pesky detective.

And now I am already thinking about the celebrity-guest-murderers. Have thoughts on who you would like to see do that?

TIL that famed banjo player Earl Scruggs was a pilot and once survived a crashing his own plane with only a broken leg. I thought to myself - oh, surely that’s the basis for that Columbo episode in which Johnny Cash plays a country singer / pilot who covers up a murder by jumping out of his own plane with a parachute and pretending he was thrown clear of the wreck with just a broken leg. BUT NO, it is not art imitates life! The Columbo episode aired in March 1974 and the Scruggs crash was in October 1975. Also, as far as we know, Earl Scruggs never murdered anyone.
