Improvements occurred in parts of the Midwest, High Plains, Texas and Puerto Rico. Degradations occurred in parts of the Southeast Kansas, Oklahoma, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota.
US Drought Monitor analysis now showing "abnormal dryness" in Southeast Alaska south of Petersburg to Craig line. This is due to below normal precipitation since the start of 2024 and the lack of mountain snowpack.
Most changes happened in the middle of the continental U.S., with the majority of improvements happening in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska.
Parts of the South, plus Washington and Puerto Rico, also received improvements, with generally mixed conditions elsewhere.
