We need to enshrine for everyone, otherwise they do not protect anyone.

One of the reasons for censorship in a country can be because other people's human rights are being violated.

People should read the transcript of @how recent presentation at .

It's about Human Rights, censorship and the gaslighting on the political stage that can happen during conflicts.

You can't hold rogue regimes to account if you allow censorship.

EmpoderaLIVE is an intimate conference gathering experts for two days in , organized by https://cibervoluntarios.org/

This year's topic was decoding digital colonialism.

This session was particularly improvised as the original plan was to share a dialogue with @hellais on open technologies to guarantee human rights. Enjoy!

We realize that this conference was #censored. We've reached out to the organizers to understand the situation.

@ps @how @NGIZero @fediverse @NGI_Taler @hellais I'd be very interested to hear what the story was there. Certainly looks like it was censored.

emailed me an invitation to speak, but after confirming with them that they had no nor in place I declined. A pity, as it otherwise looked interesting.

I have contacted Yolanda and she after something went wrong. She's going to see what happened with the organization that Cibervoluntarios delegated the diffusion of the video on YouTube to. I'm sure this will be solved soon. But it certainly looks like someone in the chain didn't like what I said. Certainly not organizers though.

I really recommend going to the event if you have the opportunity, as it is very welcoming.

@how @ps @NGIZero @fediverse @NGI_Taler @hellais It was a good speech and an important message. I hope they'll upload the full talk soon.

I'd love to go to another time, if the organisers can be persuaded to adopt a and - I'm afraid that's a hard requirement for me to attend any event. If the event is as welcoming as you say getting those in place for next time should be possible. I'm happy to help with writing the policies if the organisers are keen.

Defence of internet as a public space.

What we think for granted is under threat. We're still alive and kicking though.

Technology is a power infrastructure.
The internet protocol means you could talk the protocol and be part of the network.

Over the last 20 years, people were naive about the internet. Strategic autonomy is at stake. Sovereignty is in danger. We should end with alternative networks and stop using Gaggle.

The internet is consuming a lot of energy. Strong narratives are coming to us from people who want to make money out of it. But we who know about tech must debunk those narratives.

"The internet is broken, but we can fix it"
A book that is not yet translated, written in 2019.

If we want to fix the internet we have to have democratic control over the internet. The internet should be considered as a Commons. We're looking into capital and how extraction works.

Fixing the internet: designing great decentralized free software
Fixing the economy: rethinking economics outside of capitalism.

If you talk about technology, you talk about power, you talk about politics, there's no way around it.

Cooperation among human rights, technologists, social movements, environmentalism, etc. must happen.
