There'll be an #NGI breakout session during OW2con'24 for NGI beneficiaries. It's a chance to meet up with fellow contributors to the open internet, share a presentation about your project and to explore new collaboration possibilities.
Throughout the conference there'll be an NGI Community corner for projects to provide demos & meet open source professionals
OW2con'24 is held 11-12, June in Paris-Châtillon. Registration is free but mandatory.
@NGIZero That sounds great, but unfortunately with no #CodeOfConduct, no #HealthPolicy and with a lineup of 4 white male keynote speakers it doesn't appear to be the kind of safe or inclusive space that I'd be comfortable in.
@dentangle@NGIZero I'm honestly disappointed that this isn't the first NGI EU event that doesn't have an explicit #codeofconduct while this may be a new thing for industries like banking, we have no excuse in Tech for that. There was an NGI event earlier this year and I checked. No code of conduct, let alone a health policy.
We need to do better otherwise you won't really have a diverse community attending.
It's four years since my last conference. I miss it.
At this point I'd consider attending almost any conference I can actually get to that has a #CodeOfConduct and a robust #HealthPolicy regardless of what the topic was.
I don't care who is speaking, or about what. I'd just like to meet up with some interesting people in a setting where I know everyone will #WearAMask
Unfortunately the pickings are slim in the EU right now, and getting on a plane is not really an option.
Very pleased that @w3c has published its updated #CodeOfConduct (which is now appropriately named a "code of conduct"). I'm proud to be one of the individuals named as having contributed into this document. https://www.w3.org/policies/code-of-conduct/
When looking at a piece of software, the first thing I do is grab the source code and look at the LICENSE. If I can't find the code, or the LICENCE isn't #OpenSource, I drop it and move on. If there's no LICENSE, I might raise a bug and ask if they'd consider adding one.
When looking at a conference, the first thing I look at is the #CodeOfConduct and the #HealthPolicy. If I can't find either of those, I ask the organisers if they'd consider adding one. If not, I drop it and move on.
@jejb@onepict@austriancoder@linuxplumbersconf I'm afraid that doesn't address the issue. Whether or not someone is planning to attend in person, knowing the details of the CoC and Health Policy in advance is essential to know if that conference is a safe space.
I would not participate in a conference (even remotely) if that conference did not have a robust #CodeOfConduct and a #PublicHealthPolicy. I know I'm not alone in this.
There's no valid reason to delay publishing the Health Policy
Codes of Conduct are a crucial tool to ensure we build safe, healthy, and inclusive communities in open source — here's an excellent opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge surrounding them. The study findings will be used to "gain insights into current CoC usage, identify challenges, and suggest optimal practices."
"When asked whether they would discipline students (or, I suppose, faculty) if they called for the genocide of Jews, each president responded that the answer depends on the context of the utterances."
@thepoliticalcat@Nonilex Clarence has long been identified as the most corrupt justice on SCOTUS's bench, the justices of which have always been treated like holy cows, purportedly as "infallible" as the Pope in Rome.
While also in his case no one has ever personally seen the commandment thrown down on earth by God himself, designating him & the Pope that one clerical guy, who'll never err.
New York Times & Leonard Leo's justices' plot to crush Roe v. Wade.
"We learn that every major aspect of Dobbs was preordained once Barrett replaced Ginsburg: Five Republican-appointed justices wanted to abolish the constitutional right to abortion; they disagreed exclusively over how it would look and how best to deceive and mollify the American public; they fretted about how fast they could rewrite the law without revealing the fundamentally partisan nature of their ruling.
...
It turns out that abortion rights vanished in America because five conservatives barely tried to hide the fact that they could do that, simply because they could do that. And it turns out that they’re increasingly bad at covering their tracks."

The Supreme Court’s new code of conduct does little to assuage concerns about ethics, especially because the justices apparently believe that it is adequate. It is not — @BrennanCenter#quote#quotes#ethics#CodeOfConduct#NoEnforcement#SupremeCourt
Latest #FOSSAcademic post: I experimented with applied #ethics in my media ethics class, asking them to come up with a #CodeOfConduct for our experimental #Mastodon instance. The results were really good!
