Deleted this below as it's not the serial, but still bad: It turns out it's my custom-to-order device model. It's quite unique in my case and identifiable to be used in #fingerprinting. #privacy#infosec#tracking
Does anybody know how browsers can access PC model names? I feel not really comfortable having this exposed on websites. I mean sure, Google Chrome does, but this was in #firefox.
#EU#DataProtection#Privacy#Biometrics#FacialRecognition#Fingerprinting#Migrants: "An EU plan to use an automatic fingerprinting system and facial recognition software on irregular migrants and asylum-seekers is problematic and should not become a precedent for other laws, the bloc´s data protection chief said on Friday.
“There is no evidence that the measures envisaged in the regulation are actually justified,” said a statement from Wojciech Wiewiorowski, the independent European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS).
“I take the lack of an impact assessment as worrying, given the nature of the personal data at stake -- sensitive biometric data -- and that vulnerable people may be involved -- migrants,” he said."
#Privacy#AdTracking#Fingerprinting#Cybersecurity#DigitalRights: "Badger Swarm orchestrates a swarm of auto-driven Privacy Badgers to cover much more ground than a single badger could. On a more technical level, Badger Swarm converts a Badger Sett scan of X sites into N parallel Badger Sett scans of X/N sites. This makes medium scans complete as quickly as small scans, and large scans complete in a reasonable amount of time.
Badger Swarm also helps us produce new insights that lead to improved Privacy Badger protections. For example, Privacy Badger now blocks fingerprinters hosted by CDNs, a feature made possible by Badger Swarm-powered expanded scanning. 2
We are releasing Badger Swarm in hope of providing a helpful foundation to web researchers. Like Badger Sett, Badger Swarm is tailor-made for Privacy Badger. However, also like Badger Sett, we built Badger Swarm so it's simple to use and modify."
One thing that even privacy advocates seem to get wrong often, is that passive fingerprint of browsers is a thing. And avoiding that takes more than just changing a user agent.
It's private companies ransacking my personal property, without consent or even asking, to see what kind of software I've installed just because I visit a website.
If I visit a physical office or store, there's Noone at the door going trough all my pockets and panniers to identify me, and if they tried there would be an outrage, and lots of talks about privacy and constitutions. So why is it allowed online, and "never" even talked about?
Anyway, somehow I’ve generated 20 “fingerprints”: 15 JS & 5 non-JS
I grok the 5, sorta. Edge & Edge Canary are merged as are iCab & Safari. I guess. BUT: I don’t get how the different Edge browsers are merged & yet are deemed “unique” & “trackable.” The interplay of “stability,” “unique,” & “trackable” is unobvious.
tell me the infamous "verify you are human" script that's rendering many websites near unusable isn't a fingerprinting attack to re-identify anonymous readers across sites?
@KrissyKat actually, it's not and @torproject#TorBrowser does that even better by wiping all the data except what you explicitly downloaded from it's history and caches...
It even has a dedicaded Button to do so instantly and will default to a window resolution to make #Fingerprinting even harder!
Texas Pulls Funding for Child ID Kits After Investigation Finds Little Evidence of Their Effectiveness
Lawmakers were slated to spend millions of taxpayer dollars for the kits but changed course after a ProPublica and Texas Tribune investigation found no evidence the kits have helped locate missing children.
