mystech, to diy

Years ago, a friend turned me on to an old book from back in the early 70s called Nomadic Furniture. It is full of DIY plans and flatpack stuff that looks way ahead of their time. From an Italian camp chairs from the 1800s, cardboard furniture that we see touted today as "new", to self-contained "living cubes" that would make IKEA proud, to some frankly very practical DIY stuff. This morning I learned there is a volume 2!

I switched over to Joplin a while back in an effort degooglerize myself. I was able to install via flatpack on Linux Mint. It was easy to import from Google Keep. I love it, and wish I had moved sooner.

I was interested in the NewsFlash reader, until I saw that installing the FlatPack required 3.6 GB, whereas installing Liferea required about 3 MB. I assume this is a issue rather than NewsFlash being bloated. It was funny, since an article mentioned their slimmed down code base. In related news, if people have RSS feed readers they really like using on I'm open to suggestions. Some way of syncing across devices (including Android) would be a plus.

I know and have lots of fans, but every time I try to use them again I want to drive nails into my forehead. I think I like my immutable with Snap or Flatpak.

@AngryAnt @dennisfaucher In this approach would you run installations from configuration.nix fresh each ? Or run flatpack installs from command line after rebuilds: in which case would flatpack installs be there after any rebuild?

Every time I flat-pack , I'm reminded of the IKEA [1] Corporation's company motto:

"Eh... close enough."

@thunderbird Installed flatpack of Thunderbird 115 yesterday. Love the new vertical card layout, thank you.

Had to re-subscribe to all my calendars.

Is there EDS integration so that the Gnome desktop calendar that Linux Mint uses in its panel can be synced?

I think I'm old enough to be upset about the madness that , etc. are bringing to the ecosystem.

Seems like the script kiddies have decided to bring the setup.exe craze to Linux.

Why bother with proper package management, why bother keeping dependencies up to date and secure when you can create a huge binary that "just works"?

The "convenience" of developers at the expense of system security, integrity and stability ...
