The Belfast Hawkwind gig in April is flagged as “an all-seated concert”.
I know the band and the long-term fans are all getting on a bit. But a seated Hawkwind gig is just an affront to nature.
My first ever gig by a band not from Belfast was Hawkwind in the Ulster Hall in 1980 or 1981. Ginger Baker was on drums. Sweet Savage was the support act, and they released so much dry ice you couldn’t see the band for about 5 minutes.
Well, for me that’s dilettantism. You can only do so much soloing. It’s like the Joe Satriani and Steve Vai albums: I mean, I like a good solo, but not for the whole fuckin’ album. I like songs with verses at each end."
Hawkwind are playing The Mandela Hall Belfast on the 8th of April.
Who’s going? The first gig I ever saw by a band not based in Belfast was Hawkwind in The Ulster Hall on the Levitation tour. With Ginger Baker on drums.
Tonight's cooking tunes courtesy of Hawkwind and thier first album 'Hawkwind' released 1970. The opening track Hurry on Sundown takes me back to 70s festivals and happier times every play.
The things you see when you're trying to do a simple industrial packaging translation. Duffy felt very seen when I showed him this. I've decided to at least get him some of those steel reinforcements for his next birthday
I also feel that Robert Calvert really missed a chance by settling for plain old Hawklords as the name for his 80s side project

When I was a kid in school
They showed me symbols on a card
Then they sent them from a locked and bolted room
I had to fake that it was hard
Circle, square, triangle, waves
I got them crystal clear by the hour
And all I said was "may I please take a rest?"
I didn't want them to know I was possessed

My ear worm is mangling the German lyric though.
