The majestic and amazingly complete remains of the abbey church at Jedburgh Abbey in the Scottish Borders. It was founded in 1138 and developed over several centuries, despite repeatedly falling victim to cross-border conflict. I pass this ‘house' on a regular basis, although normally in the car - its not a section of road we frequently cycle but cycling over to Jedburgh I stopped yesterday. At a distance it is a wee cottage on the side of a moderately busy road. Get closer and it is a facade - a small barn that has been ‘enhanced’ to make it look a little more interesting.
