A few weeks ago "rizz" was being celebrated as the OED's word of the year. Now, it's time to remove it from your vocabulary. NPR reports on the 2024 Banished Words List, devised by the faculty at Michigan's Lake Superior State University, and including terms like "impact" (especially as a verb), "hack," "at the end of the day" and "cringe-worthy." Which word or phrase would you like people to ditch this year?
Anything by Jimi Hendrix, especially his version of "All Along the Watchtower",as a short-hand for 'The ʼSixties'.
(Released September 1968,which admittedly was middle-'Sixties if those are defined by the range [22 Nov. 1963,08 Aug. 1974], or even if the end-date were the Oct. 1973 oil embargo rather than Nixon's resignation the next year.)
Regardless, please find something else…the 'Sixties were also "Honey"&"Little Brown Hen"&"The Monster Mash"….
No specific word or phrase, but the phenomenon where people don’t have the same understanding of what a term means, and everybody screams past eachother in perpetuity
