Fifty years of the PC operating system… a historic look at the contributions of pioneer Gary Kildall and his CP/M operating system to the revolution. I go back to this period, and am so there for any tributes to Kildall who IMO deserves a lot of credit for his vision and early contributions. Plus, he was just an awesome guy.

We've "progressed" in #IT so hard that we've come back to full circle to #timesharing systems. :chuckling_okuu: Replace the "mainframe" with the #cloud and replace the terminals with #smartphones and #chromebooks. :reimu_sigh:

Soon the concept of a true #personalcomputer is going to be an endangered species. :seija_coffee:

Yes your reference to them wanting it to be a (or ) for the ewes to chew on is a worst case scenario.

An interesting idea would be the phone does nothing, but talks to your at home, which does all the logic for it. The only thing it needs to do is connect to your .

We can dream, but most importantly, push, for that.

Oh, so long ago.

Yours truly on our Texas Instruments TI-99/4A, late 1981. Ahead of its time in many ways, and doomed to failure. Yes, that's a television hooked up as a monitor and an audio tape drive for data and programme storage.

The TI-99/4 was the first 16-bit home computer, with good colour graphics and a sprite system that was the best available at the time. A peripheral system was soon available that enabled the use of memory cards, multiple rom packs, serial and parallel ports, floppy drives, and hard drives.

Using a Hewlett Packard 9825A at work and the TI-99/4A at home meant I was thoroughly enmeshed in the world of the personal computer. My wife learned to write programmes on this wee beastie.

Yes, I'm wearing a white cardigan. No judgement, OK?

I'm planning to upgrade my PC and have been looking at various components.

One thing I found weird was why people want transparent sides (and even fronts) on their PC cases? There are also what amounts to disco lights you can install in the case (usually included on fans it seems).

What is the fascination with being able to look at a disco going on inside your computer???
