Well isn't really wrong. and his gang of criminals are perhaps the most dangerous the has faced yet since . Worse than the Japanese in (which funnily enough is the same territory the Duterte clan has firm control of, like a fiefdom). But instead of working for the Japanese invaders they're working for the communists this time.

The main collaborators being officials within leadership isn't really surprising either, because Duterte pampered the so hard (for example promising not to hold them accountable for clear-cut abuses of power in the drug war) during his 6-year rule.

It seems like ' strengthening of the alliance with the has convinced the not to defect to the Dutertes though. The Philippine is rabidly pro-American and Duterte had a hard time trying to balance having a pro- policy and appeasing the soldiers. :seija_coffee:

A lot of people have insisted isn't getting involved with the to embrace, extend and extinguish it...

... but even before fully implementing Fediverse interoperability in they're already talking openly about changing its protocols to add features like monetization. 🤔

https://techcrunch.com/2024/04/25/why-meta-is-looking-to-the-fediverse-as-the-future-for-social-media/

Text in a screenshot reads as follows: McCue riffed on the idea that fediverse users could become creators where some of their content became available to subscribers only, similar to how Patreon works. For instance, fediverse advocate and co-editor of ActivityPub Evan Prodromou created a paid Mastodon account (@evanplus) that users could subscribe to for $5 per month to gain access. If he’s on board with paid content, surely others would follow. Cottle agreed that the model could work with the fediverse, too. He additionally suggested there are ways the fediverse could monetize beyond donations, which is what often powers various efforts today, like Mastodon. Cottle said someone might even make a fediverse experience that consumers would pay for, the way some fediverse client apps are paid today.

mima,

@youronlyone I don't think they can force the rest of fedi to implement controls on quotes. I do think it's a bad idea to control who can quote post no matter if it's Mastodon or Threads doing it (or even Misskey). But it's just going to be circumvented/ignored easily, like how Masto's "opt-in search" has no effect on Misskey's note search per user.

What fedi really should focus on is controlling replies. And while I have reservations on federating that control, I do believe it's important to give users the power to control how their posts look like in their own instances without having admin privileges. Because it's a (micro)blog.

mima,

@DocCarms I think Eisenhower was the closest president after 1947 to be not Zionist. He's probably not an anti-Zionist but he definitely has to at least be a non-Zionist during his time as president. He supported the Arabs in an effort to remove Soviet influence in the Middle East (which didn't succeed unfortunately)

I kinda hate admitting this but Republicans back then were better. Goldwater was the last true Republican before Reaganism took over the GOP. Voting against the Civil Rights Act bill was a fatal mistake for Barry...

Idk why not at this point. The critics got like everything they wanted. Everything is pretty much . And because of that it's difficult to follow from here the artists I follow at . :satsuki_sadge:

You could say "just ask each one of them to follow you then", but that's easy for you to say. I don't like looking like an unsolicited jerk asking if they want to hear the words of Jesus Christ or something. Which is how I see some of you here on fedi btw. Damn evangelists. No different from techbros or FOSSbros

Now I do think the early stages should be opt-in like a beta as it is right now to iron out the bugs (and there are plenty) before being available fully to the public. But I have a feeling this is never gonna go as it should've been because of the harshness of those ignorant IANALs who do not really understand the and other laws... :reisensweat:

mima, to security

Permission-based systems are bad. See #XUL getting replaced by #WebExtensions for example. It didn't stop #malware from getting into the #browser or the extension store. On the contrary, the malware problem only got worse after the complete replacement of XUL extensions, which is often disparaged as "insecure" because it allowed users to pretty much change how their browser fundamentally works.

Who knew that distrusting your users and not giving them control leads to more malicious software and user #security being broken more often. :seija_coffee:

mima,

@gabriel Interestingly ignores the styling and description of the feed, because it is a RSS reader (it never removed that functionality from ) and has its own styling for feeds. It's not necessarily a bad thing though! If you're using a reader then you probably don't need the styling anyway :sagume_think:

I don't like this move by . Limiting who can do pretty much defeats the purpose of quote posts in the first place.

Oh well, I'm confident that will not adopt this beyond not allowing blocked users to quote a post by the user blocking them (which I disagree with btw), so this will not affect me thankfully and I can still quote Threads users as long as they haven't blocked me. :seija_coffee:

The is just full of smartasses really, they thought that by moving classes in 2020 to August they can minimize the disruption in education brought by .

It did minimize it alright, but only for 2020 and 2021. Eventually we will have to return to face-to-face classes, which we did starting 2022 IIRC. Their hubris in keeping children in classes no matter what didn't make them think that we are a tropical country; that their foresight-less act means there will still be classes in April and May, the hottest months in this climate. They're now forced to move it back to June which they will have to do gradually. This brings more disruption as it means students will only get a one-month long vacation instead of the usual two, and the moving schedules mean planning school events far ahead become less certain.

Very cool DepEd. Truly the brightest and bestest of the country. :kokoro_yes: :reimu_sigh:

I think the and federations pose interesting questions about what platforms can and should be.

Do we actually want blogs and feeds of blogs folded into a mastodon/microblog social feed?

Do we want to read and comment on blogs on mastodon?

Do we want all the diversity of the fediverse fed into a single platform's UI and hope that it works well?

Are we worried that some choices by our platform or instance admin might hinder this process?

I'm rather skeptical.

1/

mima,

@aliceif Perhaps. But GoToSocial seems to be doing alright where it's basically just backend and very minimal logged-out and admin frontends. And IIRC, Pleroma only did that separation very late in its development instead of from the beginning, so that one might be a factor.

But it might be too late indeed. Maybe the best we can do right now is try to limit the differences between the microblog fediverse implementations and cut down on the non-microblog ones like Lemmy, Peertube, Pixelfed, and Bookwyrm, instead making those ones client-only. :sagume_think:
