Just finished the novel . Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Lots of geeky references to classic video games, Dungeons and Dragons, and related culture from the 70s-90s, but set in a near future dystopia dominated by a MMORPG called the OASIS.

Kind of like the Hunger Games, if Cory Doctorow had written it. And Doctorow even makes a brief cameo in the book.

It’s Ernest Cline’s birthday today. Author of It was an honour to create the Illustrated Theatrical Film Poster back in 2018! @CultureDesk @ArtPhotosDesk

“Ready Player One is a story about desperate people seeking escape from a collapsing society within the confines of a predatory digital world run by ultra-rich oligarchs who will do anything, including committing mass murder, in order to protect their positions of wealth and power. And now a company called Futureverse is teaming up with Warner Bros Discovery and author Ernest Cline to bring that particular Torment Nexus to life with the creation of the Readyverse, which aims to "to bring the promise of the open metaverse depicted in Cline’s Ready Player One novel and the blockbuster film adaptation into a tangible reality.””

I'm playing for my replay. I'm working through the M.I.T. edition that comes with the Frotz interactive fiction app on the iPad. and using Freeform to map where I've been. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/frotz/id287653015

Ok. Ready Player One is the obvious answer. But I think there is actually a lot of Minority Report sprinkled throughout the objective Apple is aiming at.

Next up in the Replay is Madness and the Minotaur (yet another text-based adventure game).

My review of Pyramid is up at Nuketown as part of the Replay. This is a text adventure game that reskins the classic Colossal Cave Adventure with Egyptian trappings. Radio Shack released it for the TRS-80. https://www.nuketown.com/pyramid-ready-player-one-video-game-replay/

That means the Apple PornoGoggles are gonna cost at least three grand in quids...

... nope ...

Also, this whole advert for it looks like the dystopian intro to the film.

New at Nuketown - a review of the text adventure game BEDLAM for the TRS-80, in which I do battle with an uncooperative cabinet. https://www.nuketown.com/bedlam-ready-player-one-video-game-replay/. #InteractiveFiction #TextAdventure #ReadyPlayerOne
