So, I see many gardeners on here using grow tents for their seedlings. I've never tried that, but am thinking about it. Can someone recommend some reading on what (not) to do when using grow tents? ow vigilant do I need to be regarding temperature and humidity management or air flow?
Preferably sources not from the cannabis corner (lots of hyper-optimization mixed with voodoo there), but just regular plants.
Put a little myco around the seedlings today. A half teaspoon per between the potting mix and pot. I'll give them the full tablespoon when they go in the ground, or the ones I plant anyway.
morning glory update. (there are two varieties: Flying Saucers and Crimson Rambler.) they're getting their first adult leaves, and through the plastic you can see how many roots they're growing.
Reconfigured the grow tent for potting up. 18 per tray I'll be 5 pots short of 4 full trays now. The hyssop starts getting planted tomorrow maybe and the bench area holds 4 trays so I don't need the tent yet but I'll use it and maybe get some more perennial flowers going.
It’s seedy Saturday! Seed starting 🌱 today, which means santizing everything, taking inventory, and planting the first batch of annuals and perennials for the 2024 gardening season! Gardening reminds you that the spring isn’t too far away and this too, shall pass.
If you have any #gardening or #seedstarting questions, I am always here to help. It will do wonders for your mental and physical health and you get food 🥬 and flowers 💐!
My YouTube video on winter sown native plants that bloomed first year has gotten a thousand views, which is a lot for my little channel. Maybe people are already planning for the next round of growing flowers from seed.
I basically gave a shoutout to eight plants that flowered for me personally by the end of August. Have a look if you're wondering what seeds to sow.
I've got a little closed-canopy food forest happening here. I think I'll start hardening these guys off today, since the outdoor afternoon highs will be the same or warmer than the nighttime temps have been inside the house. Tomatoes, peppers, basil, lovage, thyme. Still gotta get my cukes and squash going. Average last frost is 5/17 here, but Memorial Day is the traditional date for setting out heat-lovers like tomatoes.
cold frame update: continuing to grow visibly every day. the cayenne and mini pumpkin plants even have little flower buds on them. i don't expect those to last, but it's a sign of how happy they are in there. 🌱
