I saw an article criticizing #Mastodon for the recent #spam attack, but you know, I literally never saw the effects of this attack people say happened and that kind of says something
I have applied a web filter called Caterpillar because there was too much spam coming into my server in the fediverse, making it difficult to operate normally.
Since then, my server has not been under spam attack. :)
Based on some dodgy regex queries and the limited reach of my instance, it looks like the number of spam affected servers is trending down but the number of spam posts is still actually trending up.
@admin Hmm, interesting. He joined on January 21st with a reason: ”I want to join the greate community and to chat with other members and to contribute to the community” and I suspended him February 6th because of spam. So he could have not caused further spam from my server because I do not have open registration. But I may be a target because of this.
Looks like there is also a spam attack coming from mastodon.online as well today as I just got a private mention, tag with numerous others, from an account there.
@southwesternwhi is the account in question.
I have reported it and blocked it and you should do the same with any similar accounts.
Looks like mastodon.social is getting hit with another wave of spam bots. Best thing to do is report them and myself and @cliffwade will block them ASAP. @Gargron and crew usually get to them quick so just sit tight and keep reporting them.
Contrary to the ludicrous rumor posted above, he's NOT some oligarch making demands on his personal fiefdom network. Mastodon is #federated, meaning he's not running around, kicking people off on a whim.
MASTODON IS NOT TWITTER. IT WORKS VERY DIFFERENTLY. This is not one large network. It's a bunch of little networks, connected together.
The MISINFORMATION above should've been checked before being posted. The only actions being taken against #MastodonSocial were temporary and technical ones, in response to a #SpamAttack. It's a normal part of Administering an instance (server).
Please do NOT continue to spread #Misinformation and #rumors. This is not Twitter. We don't encourage lies here.
Be sure to follow and VERIFY rumors with accounts like @mastodonmigration and @feditips, for verified FACTUAL information.
Weshalb gibt es eigentlich immer noch Spam?! Ist das tatsächlich noch so lukrativ oder ist es „einfach nur noch“ ein Mücken-Phänomen (= verdammt lästig)?
