@masukomi@Smingleigh As suggested backup the data and start replacing the drives one at a time. The risk of another failing drive during rebuild is high as the stress on the array is intensive. So having multiple drives flagged should be taken seriously.
SHR vs conventional raid is only that it allows a combination of disks that are not of the same capacity. Meaning it will utilize them better but in some cases that makes sense with more drives (number of disk and their size).
@Taffer FWIW, I've had a Synology DS420+ for nearly 4 years now, populated with 4 drives.
The initial cost was admittedly significant, not going to lie, but to date I've had (almost) no complaints about it.
The DSM software is decent, easy to maintain, and everything Just Works. Could I have made my own system for less? Absolutely. But for a very neatly presented, self-contained, reliable system it works very well.
Since I can't stop thinking about expanding my NAS (I've got a 2-bay NAS now, apparently my brain "needs" a 4+ bay NAS), so I'm looking into building one from parts vs just buying the 4-bay Synology.
Finding small cases with four drive bays is apparently hard; they've all got 1-2 bays and a huge amount of space for a massive GPU because only gamers buy them?
Hey, you know what? For around the cost of upgrading to a 4-bay NAS, I can just double the storage in my existing hardware. And I can just plug in the new drives (one at a time) and repair the volume.
Spanennd was die da alles so einbauen... ih bin begeistert ;)
Here's another #synology#photos sharing test - this time using the "share" icon. Disappointingly, this seems to upload an image rather than link to source
Although I've been using linux and hosting websites on external servers for many years I'm a late comer to the home server network. Probably a good solution for storing and backup of images amongst many other things. My Synology NAS drive arrives in the next few days and I then can start "messing" :sablobsmilehappy: Any starter tips?
My #Proxmox journey started a month ago. I moved all my all my #docker containers and #HomeAssistant VM from my #Synology NAS to a testing MiniPC with Proxmox.
This test was very positive, so I decided to move to a new server. I'm using a cluster to move my LXCs and VMs. I'm very impressed by how simple the process is for a newbie like me. I just need to remove my snapshots before.
