This week's is (a song that tells a story).

I was just thinking the other day how Meat Puppets are EXCELLENT at this. Curt Kirkwood is one of our greatest living songwriters.

The whole 'Rat Farm' record from 2013 is great and deserves a listen. But "Sweet", the last track on it, wow. The lyrics are epic.

Here's a #StorySong (by @HeatherInNZ) for #TuneTuesday

In the early 13th century Hadmar III and Heinrich III formed the infamous "Hounds of Kuenring" who were robber nights and would raid ships along the Danube.

Here is an epic #HeavyMetal song that tells their story:

🎵 The Hounds Of Kuenring by Küenring

Fun fact: their father Hadmar II once took captive Richard the Lionheart, King of England. Take that you bloody warm beer drinkers 💪

I think it's particularly fortuitous that this week's theme for is , as it is Martin Carthy's birthday today, and he is a great performer and interpreter of the folk songs of the islands of Britain and Ireland. Here's one such song where he tells the tale of an ill-fated voyage to Norway.

It's , hosted by @Kitty, with a prompt of from @HeatherInNZ

I set myself some extra rules for this one.

  1. The story has to be original (sorry, Summoning, and also all the mythology and history metal bands).
  2. No power metal and no Iron Maiden (hard mode).
  3. The story has to be fully contained within the song, and comprehensible without supporting material such as videos.

So! For my song that tells a story, I'm going back in time a quarter of a century to choose:

Cradle of Filth - Her Ghost In The Fog
https://songwhip.com/cradle-of-filth/her-ghost-in-the-fog

(CW rape, murder)

Lyrics
http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/cradleoffilth/midian.html#8

Decent quality rip of the (cut! very turn-of-the-century! it's a bit shonky!) music video that went out to video stations:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kati-ujb8sE

You nearly got King Diamond or Nick Cave, and very nearly got Legendarium, but I'm supposed to be writing, so I'm going to stop overthinking this again.

Actually, maybe a second post for Legendarium

This sounded on Saturday during my painting session, only to remind me how much I liked this song, its story and the amazing voice of Victor García.

Sadly the lyrics are in spanish, but this is metal made beauty.

@HeatherInNZ has given us the theme of #StorySong for @Kitty 's #TuneTuesday for me one of the first ones that always comes to mind for a song that tells a story is Gordon Lightfoot:The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald but I've used that a few times for various things. Instead you're getting a dark and sleazy tale from Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats: Melody Lane https://songwhip.com/uncle-acid-and-the-deadbeats/melody-lane

How to choose just one for ? Star One, Mastodon, Candlemass, Keep Of Kalessin, Turisas, Iron Maiden, Clutch, Cradle Of Filth, King Diamond, Dio, Primordial and Vulture Industries. The possibilities are literally endless!

But, it has to be Ayreon with the perfect combo of Arjen Lucassen's writing and Damian Wilson's voice telling the (bullshit version) story of Stone Henge: https://songwhip.com/ayreon/and-the-druids-turn-to-stone

For @Kitty's Tune Tuesday, @satsuma gave us a theme of "My Precious Music."

It's all about physical media.

I do not buy a lot of physical media as of late, though my oldest has been.

Here's the most recent physical album I got myself, Magnolia Park's "Halloween Mixtape II." And it RULES.

Magnolia Park gives us a fantastic emo / pop punk album that I have kept in my car since I got it over a month ago. Also, my 12 year old has gotten SUPER into it too.

The album hits from beginning to end. You can listen to it / buy it here: https://songwhip.com/magnoliapark/halloween-mixtape-ii

Did you know that our debut album "fogdriver" is a precious physical medium ;-) You can change the cover of this CD because we have hand-cut a square on the front. We have included an interchangeable cover image for each song.

So, even if this is a bit of self-promotion. For me personally, it really is

Go have a look :-)

A favourite album on physical media for

For me, music has memories and stories attached, even more so when it's in a physical media format. It's hard to pick just one, but I will.

The Essential Foo Fighters, bought in an accidentally found music section of a huge department store where I bought it with cash as if I'd taken a leap back in time to the 1990s. I was extra happy as I'd wanted the CD for a while and had not been able to find it.
