A milestone shakedown cruise for Boeing's space taxi has been postponed until May 21 to give the launch team some extra time to conduct tests and resolve concerns about a small helium leak. https://www.geekwire.com/2024/additional-delay-boeing-starliner-crew/

⏳🥱 Last July and officials decided to put a hold on launch preparations. During their final reviews to certify for flight nearly a year ago, engineers discovered parts of Starliner's parachute 🪂 deployment system did not meet required safety specifications and that Boeing installed flammable 🔥 tape wrapped around wiring bundles throughout the , creating a potential fire hazard ☠️ https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/02/maybe-just-maybe-boeings-starliner-will-finally-fly-astronauts-this-spring/

I keep thinking about how United Launch Alliance's new Vulcan-Centaur stack launched just fine the first time without things exploding, but apparently needs a succession of failed launches to gather data.

New audio: TDYR 415 - Why ULA's Vulcan Centaur Launch Was So Important - https://soundcloud.com/danyork/tdyr-415-why-ulas-vulcan-centaur-launch-was-so-important

In this episode, I discussed why the launch of ULA's Vulcan Centaur rocket on January 8 was so important from a resiliency point of view as we look to do so much more in space.

They have a long way to go to even begin to catch up with the truly amazing launch work that is doing... but at least it is a start.

Carrying science planned for the , successfully launched its rocket & Astrobotic’s lunar lander early this morning. Astrobotic’s lander experienced a propulsion issue after the spacecraft entered its operational state. This prevented from achieving sun-pointing orientation. The company is assessing & will provide more info as it is available.

So, you know how didn't show any telemetry during this morning’s launch of ?
What they did show was a telemetry driven 3D animation - this allowed me to reconstruct parts of the trajectory using photogrammetry.

scatter plot of reconstructed altitude vs downrange distance. The points form a curved line that points towards the origin of the plot.

Finally, huge congrats to for pulling off such a clean first flight!
Also, fingers crossed for and their lander! They seem to have trouble with their propulsion system and almost ran out of battery power, but but we are finally getting some better news now!

📆 Nov 15, 2023 #ULA is seeking to scale up production of the #Vulcan rocket to reach a cadence of two launches 🚀🚀 a month by the end of 📆 2025. That seems rather ambitious and might be asking a lot of suppliers, including engine manufacturer #BlueOrigin. https://arstechnica.com/space/2023/11/ula-chief-on-the-vulcan-rocket-the-path-to-flight-one-is-clear/
