I don't know. Maybe staking the latest attempt to reboot manned lunar exploration on what is less a a rocket designed for a particular mission and is more yet another stainless steel ideation of the raging ego of a narcissistic man-child was possibly a mistake?

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA Going to treat that as a rhetorical question.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA Give me a reason not to? As it stands, it's not really something that can be treated as a serious question.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA I'll give you that it's big, even if it's not at all well designed for the Artemis program or anything that we really need rockets to actually do, and the proposed variant for Artemis is absolute vaporware.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA Well, I'm not going to answer your question, but you're certainly free to familiarize yourself with just what a Rube-Goldberg contraption the mission plans for using Starship within Artemis are if you're genuinely curious and not merely disingenuous, among other issues with its concept and development.

Fortunately, it's not sole-source anymore, though unfortunately the money dumped into it is basically a loss.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA Understand that I'm not really interested.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA I don't really care if you can or can't. That's a you problem. Good straw man though (especially since Musk is not financing the development in any serious way, but the space program certainly is). It does make me appreciate that you have nothing more to say. If only you could've reached that point sooner.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@0x5DA Well, that certainly is not what you're trying to do, but my perspective was covered in the original post.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

I gave you plenty of leash and you used it to convey erroneous assumptions and engage in straw men. I can take that leash away if you insist.

apparently people DON'T want their keyboards to sound like a bag of Legos falling down stairs while they type. this scares me

@senanthic Click switches were my gateway into mechanical keyboards, but now I'm all about tactile switches. Just not Cherry Brown.

I keep thinking about how last week I was at the Italian Centre grocery in Little Italy. I was wearing an elastomeric respirator and she asked where I'd found it.

"It looks much more comfortable to wear and like it will actually DO something," she said excitedly. So we talked respirators and where I got mine and I guess some people didn't know comfortable, effective options exist.

I keep thinking about how United Launch Alliance's new Vulcan-Centaur stack launched just fine the first time without things exploding, but apparently needs a succession of failed launches to gather data.

Good morning Dirt City. The thermometer is showing a balmy 11°C on this 30th day of actual January as I walk through at 0826 this morning. The sound of studded bicycle tires scraping on bare pavement is everywhere.

A Valley Line LRT tram leaving the station at 101 Street and 102 Ave in downtown Edmonton. Meltwater puddles are everywhere, as well as the various detritus that tends to melt out of the snow. A digital signboard shows 11c in block text to the right.

Today in a cafe, some guy pointed out that my respirator looked like "a gas mask from the 1940s" in an attempt at a joke. I proceeded to weaponize my autism to enthusiastically data dump about military CBRN respirators, features they would actually have, what it's like to actually wear one, and features I miss until regret was etched on every line of his face, which I casually ignored as I continued to explain more and better, more and better.

So in Alberta, we're only allowed one booster per year now. This creates a dilemma: since I'm finally eligible for a booster, do I jump on the first options to market or shop around for a specific option that might be more effective.

Coprolite,
@Coprolite@mstdn.ca avatar

@robyn Other half and I haven’t been eligible for a booster since last fall, apparently.

The year is 2076. At the age of 100 years old, I am eligible to collect my Alberta Pension Plan. A dump truck owned by a UCP bitumen-level donor arrives and dumps a load of high sulphur petroleum coke upon my vegetable garden.

Just completed a shopping run in where we no longer allow single use plastic shopping bags, and having forgotten my shopping bag. It turns out that the shell pockets and game pocket of my everyday jacket is basically a shopping bag.
