The violets are out. According to my plant identification app, these are sweet violets. The name comes from both the smell and the flavor. They are edible and highly nutritious except for the root. They also have medicinal properties.
(viola Odorata)

Sweet Violets (viola odorata) growing in a cluster on the forest floor.

First bloom of the season! Hello my pretty.

polyplacophora, to random

The HOA is spraying herbicide tomorrow because they're still apparently under the delusion that our area is capable of growing lawns, and I'm trying to rescue some of the mosses and these little yard violets before that happens. Mosses I've researched before, for Pocket's terrarium, but does anyone here have advice for violets? I'm still in the process of ID'ing but I think they're just regular common blue violets (Viola sororia).
