I just tooted 🎺 earlier about finding myself behind a and one of the responses mentioned the dynamics etc.

I’ve never been a big fan of manuals (although I love shiftable automatics) but maybe I should drive the right one to understand why so many fans desire them.

I’ve driven a Golf Mk I manual (not GTi), a Mercedes-Benz (hated it), and a few other nondescript manual rentals in various guises.

If you had to drive ONE manual to understand, which would it be?

Lot’s of great answers to my question.

Surprised “The Ultimate Driving Machine” 3 Series wasn’t mentioned.

What if one moves up the food chain to Porsche or Ferrari?

Is the key anything to do with a short travel shift gate and a shallow clutch?

It’s dinner 🍽️ 🍷 time, so I’ve got some cooking to do, but I forgot that I found myself behind this thing today. Are these desirable?

fact knowers. What are some relatively pedestrian cars high profile exotic car owners love to drive? I’ve heard Christian von Koenigsegg drive an NA miata. Gordon Murray drive a smart roadster before he got an alpine. I think the CEO of Porsche daily drives an American pickup truck in Germany.

Did this drive exactly a year ago. Last year we had to drive through floodwaters and everything was green. This year it’s very dry and there are out of control bushfires just to the west. #WeirdCar #WeirdCarMastodon #ElNino

The same place a year later. Each side of the road is dry and yellow. The sky is clear and blue.

I’m taking a hiatus. Need to get away from the news for a while. Peace.

@ukuku really sorry that things are getting to you. 😢

I’ve found such a balance between the news and stuff on Mastodon, it’s a much happier place than was for me.

If you don’t follow her already @GottaLaff is an incredible news source, whose personal life also creeps into her feed occasionally, so it’s not sterile or cold-hearted news.

It’s okay to need time off from living sometimes.

Bro hug! 🤗

This is a “memory” from December 2017 taken with an iPhone X — the image will be heavily compressed on Mastodon — while leaving a rest area for a driver swap on I-70 WB (luckily, no snow or ice that time).

We used to travel that 1,015 mile trip (each way) once or twice a year in our Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and later, in our E-Class. Now, we just fly to Denver and grab a rental car.

Walking home from dropping off the truck, spotted Dylan’s namesake store. It’s closed, but he left his cruiser parked out front, and his weekend fun car parked on the other side of the street. 😜

Wrong color of leather in the Bentley though. Don’t know how that could’ve happened! 😱

@Dylan

Mazda Miata seen across the street in front of a service garage. Blue recycle bin behind the Miata. Toyota Sienna minivan parked in front. Glimpse of a yellow forklift truck in the background and what looks like 3 service bays in total. Blue Corvette partially visible to the right, near a black trash bin.

Truck purchased in January 1994. Getting an oil change, service for the a/c, the fuel gauge, and the tailgate release.

You can see the broken plastic clips which are supposed to hold the metal rods for the latches in place. One of them I wired in place about 5 years ago! 😂

Had to sneak the mileage photo in while moving or I would have missed it, but I didn’t look at my phone for more than a second. Left the rest to chance. The result turned out okay. 😉

Rear tailgate release for 1994 K1500 Silverado pickup with cover removed to show the broken plastic clips.

Here’s a pair of for you, Mastodon! It’s a Daimler-Benz Unimog and a Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer! The Unimog is an off-road capable, do-it-all farm and construction workhorse, and the Pinzgauer is an Austrian-made troop carrier, fitting 10 crew in the bed of the truck. Owners of both vehicles use them for off-road adventures and for transporting many kids and their friends (now tethered with aftermarket seat belts) to amusement parks.

Here’s a for you, Mastodon! It’s a 1945 MG TC, the first MG automobile to make it big in the USA. Rumor has it that Edsel Ford, Henry Ford’s son, was the first customer this side of the Atlantic.

This unit has been restored and repainted in Toyota Supra Red. With its sports car pedigree and beautiful proportions (and suicide doors!), this car looks stunning almost eight decades on.

Dashboard of the MG TC. The beige dash is swoopy with curved humps rising above the driver and passenger footwells. The right-mounted steering wheel is large and spindly. A large white tachometer is seen in front of the driver’s side, and a matching speedometer is seen on the passenger’s side. Various small gauges and switches adorn the center, and a chromed grab handle is mounted on the far passenger’s side.
