I

  1. Donned shorts and flip-flops for the first time this year. Croc ones and they were too uncomfortable. I popped in White Rose and they had a Nike pair. They are sooo comfy 😊

  2. Did a photo shoot at my friends studio. I brought costumes and hats for people to wear for my photo groups Funny Photos exhibition we are doing.

  3. Spent the rest of the day outside the pub with my friends in the sun.

Today in Labor History February 18, 1943: The Nazis arrested the members of the White Rose movement. The activist group called for opposition to the Nazi regime through an anonymous leaflet and graffiti campaign. The Nazis put on a show trial in which none of the defendants were allowed to speak. They executed Hans and Sophie Schol, and Christoph Probst on February 22, 1943. White Rose leaflets openly denounced the persecution and mass murder of the Jews. They might have taken their name from the poem "Cultivo una rosa blanca," by Cuban revolutionary and poet, Jose Marti. Alternatively, they may have gotten it from the B. Traven novel, “Die Weiße Rose” (The White Rose).” Traven served on the Central Council of the short-lived Bavarian Soviet Republic. He escaped the terror that followed the crushing of the Republic and fled to Mexico, where he wrote numerous novels, including “Death Ship” and “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.”

Looks like the denial group is back under a new name. (Not related to the genuine anti-Nazi group of the same name: see the Wikipedia link). This appeared in my town recently. Different name, but identical politics, graphic style and tactics. If you go to the URL there is an offer of free stickers for anyone who asks. But no info on who is bankrolling it of course.

On 9 May 1921 Sophie Scholl was born. She was a German student and anti-Nazi political activist, active within the White Rose non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany. She was executed by guillotine on 22 February 1943 in Stadelheim prison, Munich.
