Which civilization lasted the longest? It’s hard to pinpoint one, but China, ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia are often at the top of the list. Live Science makes the case for each of these enduring cultures.

Interesting interview, "Left-brain thinking will destroy
," with Iain :

> a civilisation cannot thrive if differing points of view cannot be
> heard. Hannah Arendt, one of the greatest philosophers of the last 100
> years, who was herself a German Jew and experienced Nazism, said that:
> "Once something can't be said, you're already in a tyranny."

Perhaps one thinks there's something wrong with though,
like :

> I reckon I got to light out for the territory ahead of the rest,
> because Aunt Sally she's going to adopt me and sivilize me, and I
> can't stand it. I been there before.

It took about five years for a sequel to appear, but when Civilization II appeared in 1996 it was astonishing. It was preceded by the quite good Colonization in 1994, but for the first time, the map was shown in an isometric view and the game was shipped on a CD-ROM with lots of early multimedia. It was a worthy upgrade, but in retrospect just a stepping stone to much more.
