I started a batch of feta (will take a couple days to set in molds and dry before I put it into whey-brine in jars to age for at least 6 weeks)
Now I get to learn how to make an online reading list in my university's LMS for one of the classes I'm teaching in the fall semester ughhhh (if I start now, I can get help if/when I get stuck... yay librarians!)
> The sheer scale of the hype inflation came to light in May. […] Decentraland, arguably the largest and most relevant #Metaverse platform, had only 38 active daily users. The Guardian reported that the monetized content ecosystem in Meta’s flagship product Horizon Worlds produced no more than $470 in revenue globally. Thirty-eight active users. Four hundred and seventy dollars. You’re not reading those numbers wrong.
it probably matters little in the grand scheme of things but i'm going to keep calling them Facebook. corporations aren't people, full stop, deadnaming a corporation isn't a thing, and the awful reputation their former name accrued should follow them to the new identity.
on the other hand, i think the broad historical arc of their pivot to being a "metaverse" company is already so disastrous that maybe in a few years they'll have switched back to their old name. and then i'll be calling em Meta.
It's time to get some real content in this magazine - who else keeps calling it "the fetaverse" like feta cheese and gets cravings?
I do love the fediverse but man...what I wouldn't do to live in the fetaverse
