A2 For my sister-in-law, the border crossing was able to pinpoint the village in Mexico where the immigrant had been born. It was the only source that I recall finding with her. #genchat
I understand what type of border crossings you are asking about ... my earliest seem to be UK to New Zealand migrations in the early 1840s and, cough transportations to Oz.
Mine went to NZ, for free, paid for by the Wesley's Methodists, under the colonisation with "respectable" working people ... but I've told before of my granny's grandad who got left behind, possibly adopted away, who was not "respectably" born within wedlock. Known by DNA dark arts.
@genchat@genchat#GenChat PS I confirmed the story, names, dates with passenger lists & city directories PLUS a photo of the man with his Montreal cousins! This made it more real to descendants, who only knew it as a story. #FamilyHistory
I have several ancestors who worked in the tobacco industry in North Carolina who made multiple trips to Canada - apparently selling? (I can't imagine they'd be buying tobacco grown in Canada.)
I have just tried the mini family tree creation tool on #Gedmatch
If after the last stage (where Gedmatch allocates a tree ID number to the new mini tree) you hit the back button then resubmit then Gedmatch allocates a new second different ID number.
I have no idea why I hit the back button except maybe thinking it would take me back out to the main page, which it didn't .
Build 13, the latest release of The Memory Keeper has been released. MK is a free/open source #TiddlyWiki solution, that provides a personal/private research solution for your projects–including #genealogy#familyhistory research. MK sample screenshot shows this my 2x great uncle, John Benson. Who were Canadian Prime Ministers during John's life? Like WOW... John A. MacDonald when he was a kid and Pierre Trudeau when he died. Gee, I wished I had spoken to him about his life when I was kid.
@clsturgeon I'm a fan of #MemoryKeeper as it handles genealogy facts, information and context as just that, without being constrained to immediately attach them to a family. Something that most genealogy programs don't allow you to do. Also good for broader historical research too. @geneadons@genealogy#genchat

#introduction
After 2 weeks, it's high time I do my intro post!
Yes, I'm a #TwitterRefugee but am still over there, probably till it dies. I'm currently co-host of the oldest #genealogy chat on Twitter (#genchat), so that's what's keeping me there for now. However, I've set up its account here on #Mastodon (@genchat).
I work full time and actively volunteer at my church but genealogy is my passion!
