What on earth??

This is a dialogue I get now when I try to use Siri to communicate with someone I send messages to via iMessage constantly.

It happens with “send a text to“ and “send a message to“. The only way I can make it not appear is with “send an iMessage to”.

I feel like a doofus for asking this, but when you are in standby mode using two widgets if you tap one of them then this button appears that lets you easily unlock the phone.

How the heck do you unlock the phone when you’re using only one widget (specifically the digital clock)? That button doesn’t appear and swiping up changes to a different clock.

I realized that iOS is not handling SF Symbols for accessibility text sizes consistently.

Left pic is iOS settings app. SF Symbols have not been increased with the largest accessibility text size.

Right pic is the health app and the symbols have been increased in size.

@JenMsft I found a long-standing bug in on . when using , the items in the open tab list are not spoken. It just says, “Draggable.” Only after I open it, will voiceover tell me what it is. This bug is present on my running .4. Would you be willing to look into this & ensure its resolution? I sent feedback about it through the app.

iMessage mit mehr Sicherheit gegen Quantencomputer-Bedrohungen

I woke up this morning to an #iPhone that wouldn’t turn on. I was very worried that the #iOS17 beta update bricked the device. 😬

Had to do a hard reset of the phone to get it working again. (Press volume up, release, press volume down, release, hold the power button) 🫠

Owners of an Apple Watch. With iOS 17, Siri can now not only give you health data; like how many steps you have taken, most recent heart rate or blood oxygen, but it can also look in the past for you. For example, if I was wondering my heart rate while I was sleeping, I could say, what was my heart rate between midnight and 5 AM. It would then tell me the lowest and highest rates my heart reached during that time, plus my average rate during that time. It can do this for any hour you want to know about. This makes getting this information a lot quicker and easier. So if you want or need to know any health information, instead of trying to dig through the health app, just use Siri to find it for you!

I've started using widgets from my app a lot in StandBy mode. I've noticed that whenever I upgrade to a new version via TestFlight it removes the widget I was using from StandBy. I have to manually add it back.

I don’t have to do this for widgets on my lock screen or home screen.

The Bike Fun iOS app is officially out so go download it now! It’s totally free, no ads or trackers, and is the best way to view the Shift2Bikes calendar on an iPhone, iPad or Mac!

I hope you enjoy using it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it, and I’ve got more features on the way so stay tuned.

Is anyone else seeing this weird behaviour in #SwiftUI where a sheet-presented View's NavigationStack jumps between inline and largeTitles?
First it's inline, but when you navigate it’s suddenly large? This seems like a bug since #iOS17.

I’ve started encountering the weirdest CarPlay bug. The other day I could hear voice directions from Apple Maps, but I couldn’t get the Apple Music or podcast apps to play audio.

Today during my drive, everything was fine until 10 minutes in when I used CarPlay Siri to set a reminder. After that I was back to no audio in music or podcasts.

It took two Widgets to solve the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi toggle issue on iOS. I'm thankful to the Mastodon user who's advice prompted my deeper exploration of the Shortcuts app. It's a work around, but at least it replicates the behavior I desire. 😅

Apple sent me a market research survey...Which gave me an opportunity to productively roast the iOS developers on their choice to make Bluetooth and Wi-Fi toggles disrespect user choice.

How Android phones handle this much better, respecting a user's input and not automatically turning either back on after a day. All without having to go into the full settings to fully turn either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi completely off.

I also told them what they were doing right too.

I guess now could be a good time to see what’s new in iOS 17. At this stage Apple has fixed all the bugs they ever will fix and it’s as stable as it’ll ever be. My app has so far required 16, so I don’t think there will be any issues with porting. However I can’t remember a single interesting feature in 17 that I actually wanted as a developer? Was there anything new at all? Not talking about minor convenience updates to some old API:s, but brand new stuff. Anything?

I've found iOS is real annoying with Bluetooth...It keeps Bluetooth on despite the icon being gray. I have to go into settings to turn it completely off. If I reboot my phone, this toggle is not persistent.

Android handles Bluetooth so well, if the icon is gray, it's not on. iOS devs at Apple HQ need to fix this Waffle House behavior! 😵‍💫

ns, to AppleMusic

My is quite a mix. I wonder if I can tell Apple Music to keep track of what music I play in different contexts.

In the car with the kids, I choose a family-friendly pop station. So my top artists are Miley Cyrus (“Flowers”) and Harry Styles. They aren’t my favorites but they are the artists I played the most.

And during work I play spacey ambient music as background noise. I spend a lot of time listening to it but it isn’t my preferred music outside of that context.
