POST INVESTIGATION: The MTA and NJT prepared separate complementary plans that would re-engineer the existing Penn Station to fit all the new trains expected from the Gateway tunnels, alleviating the need for the controversial $17 billion Penn South project

The paper's investigation is based on an examination of 1,000 pages of internal MTA and NJT documents, including reports and engineering schematics, many of which have never been released -- https://nypost.com/2023/12/25/metro/shelved-penn-station-fixes-could-avoid-17b-expansion-docs/

The last train of the night pulls away. You look up expectantly, but no passengers appear at the top of the stairs. Just like the three trains before.

You are waiting for the train to appear out of the fog. You can’t see far down the tracks in either direction. You are taking it on faith that the train will be from the same place as yesterday, and once you board, that it will take you where you expect to go. Other than prior experience, you cannot be sure that this is true.

If you take the NJ Transit in October, you can bring one friend with you for free.

After almost six months of work, I'm proud to finally present my integrated commuter rail map of New York City and Philadelphia!

Showing five different commuter rail systems (, , , , and ), this map depicts everywhere a passenger can get to by train from NYC or Philadelphia without using Amtrak.

This is by far the most complicated map I've ever made, but I'm incredibly happy with the result!
