"The states that mandated paid sick or family leave for hourly workers are in mostly-white states. Given that nearly 20% of low-wage workers are Black, that means they are disproportionately more likely to live in an area where they can't care for themselves or their loved ones if they fall ill during the work week."

It’s a day to celebrate mothers, but motherhood is increasingly difficult in America. The Biden admin has fought for paid leave, affordable childcare…, but Republicans have thwarted their efforts: For families without paid leave, babies “are going to day care when they are two weeks old.”

“They do not even have immunizations. They’re not on regular feeding patterns. Moms are giving up breastfeeding far sooner than they would like to.” -S Min Kim #Childcare #PaidLeave https://apnews.com/article/paid-family-leave-maternity-22aaac545f83b95842316a3029f3bb40

"...the lost wages of even a day or two can be equivalent to a month’s worth of gasoline a worker would need to get to their job, or the choice between paying an electric bill or buying food. Wething said showing up to work sick poses a risk to co-workers and customers alike. Low-paying jobs that often lack paid sick leave — like cashiers, nail technicians, home health aides, and fast-food workers — involve lots of face-to-face interactions."

“And so, the same state that questioned Mayron’s fitness to care for her four children forced her to continue a pregnancy that risked her life to have a fifth, one that would require more intensive care than any of the others.”

"About 9 in 10 Chinese parents and two-thirds of American parents place hard work among the most important values to pass along to children. In Sweden, it’s 11 percent. This makes a lot of sense: Parents everywhere want to set their kids up for success, but 'the economic environment really shapes what that means,' Doepke said."

"The New Year means a bundle of new laws have gone into effect in Minnesota. A new law that will probably affect the most people, something called earned safe and sick time. It requires employers in Minnesota to provide employees one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. It's capped at 48 hours every year.

To do the math for you, that means after six weeks, a worker could be eligible for an eight-hour day off."

"So far this year, 30% of white-collar workers with access to paid leave have taken sick time, up from 21% in 2019, according to data from payroll and benefits software company Gusto. Employees between ages 25 and 34 are taking sick days most often. Some employers, such as Stellantis, complain such worker absences are driving up costs."

Pocket x Glamour compilation about paid leave: "Millions of children are born in the United States each year...Which means that each year, over 3.5 million newborn babies need to be cared for through sleepless nights and exhausting days, all while the birthing parent recovers from intense physical and emotional trauma from pregnancy and childbirth...America is one of only six countries in the world that offers no national paid-leave policy."

Day 177 and #Twitter users are surprised that #ElonMusk’s decision to remove #bluecheck validation is causing chaos and the creation of impersonation accounts. That could never have been predicted?

#Decentralized #SocialMedia is the solution for exposure to willful and arbitrary behavior by egomaniacal billionaires

Anybody else perplexed this happened? 😜

  1. Another day, another degradation of the work environment because you know employees shouldn't be letting child birth get in the way of world domination
