Took some time to listen to Sleep Token‘s "Take Me Back to Eden". I‘m not completely through yet bit can already tell that there are some great songs and a lot of ideas here. Though I‘m not completely convinced yet. But I have to give it a few more spins for sure.
I don't know, If should continue with my "Old man looking at "modern" metal bands" but i tried listening to #sleeptoken (because i wanted to understand the "Hype ") and, well... Yesterday a music YouTuber #bradleyhallguitar released a Video what he thinks about them and i'm with his thoughts about them:
They are boring. Something ,in German it's called, "beliebig" in their sound.
What's your opinion on that?
And what "modern" #metal bands you would recommend?
being a #metalhead in 2023 means making a list of favorite albums where 9 are the grungiest dirtiest #deathcore and black #metal, but somehow finding space to put #SleepToken in the number one spot
#23From2023 - #SleepToken – Take Me Back to Eden (Spinefarm). Metal needs another clan of nameless ghouls like it needs a hole in the skull. But this UK combo sustains the year’s biggest metal buzz by mixing up raging riffs and apocalyptic screams with Anathema-like progscapes (“Ascensionism”) and Depeche-influenced technopop (“Aqua Regia”). Refreshingly free of Ghostly arena pomp, Vessel and his masked crew deliver enough epic crunch to offset the album’s Edenic ambitions.
@jcrabapple It was a great video and II appears to be a great drummer --very Gavin Harrison in his phrasing. I'll be honest, I've slept on Sleep Token, but giving their latest album a go now.
Vore seems to be my favourite track so far. #sleeptoken
I got my #SleepToken issue of Metal Hammer UK. There's a nice piece in here about the band, and what's really nice is they did a feature on the art and creativity of the band's fans.
Vessel from Sleep Token is on the cover of the December issue of Metal Hammer UK. My copy is on the way. I can't wait to read the interview with Vessel, his first in several years.
If you'd like to see the raw talent of Sleep Token's frontman Vessel, watch this recording of his solo performance from the Lafayette in London in 2022.
