Just hit an innovative #UXfail — a ZIP code field that, while it allowed you to type into it, only accepted preset values selected from a menu accessed by a tiny expansion triangle on the right-hand edge. Even if what you typed was identical to one of the menu selections, it was rejected.
As someone with a background in languages and, more simply, as someone with some common sense, this has been a pet hate of mine since I first saw it in the late 90s.
#UXFail
Peak California passive/aggressive: looking-up my 2011 iPad on the Apple store, to see if it's eligible for a trade-in.
"Your iPad is ready to recycle!" is all the UI says, after entering the serial number; so after reading a support article, that reverse-engineers to "You don't qualify. for a trade-in" Maybe just say as much, Apple? #UXfail
(Numeric telephone country codes sorted by country name. Not sure if names in Italian or what. But the first ones visible are the codes for Malawi and Malaysia.)
I'm sure it was an “interesting” meeting in the Microsoft Office team when they decided to have the "File" tab in the ribbon but also have it act not like a tab at all. #uxdesign#uxfail
@cmlenz@mpt the tab used to have an inverted look to stand out, which was at least a good “this won’t behave like the other tabs” indicator, but I guess they felt that was too busy
Why has #Mastodon adopted the dark pattern of repeatedly nagging users of the web #UI to download an app?
There's no justification for that I can see, and it is now happening more than once per day (on the same account, device and browser) if I reload, even if still logged in. #UX#UXfail
"To see what overlays are available in the Scene view, press the ` key to open the overlay menu."
Yes, that is an intuitive hotkey, which need not appear in any menu, and could not possibly result in someone accidentally hitting it while aiming for ESC and then wondering for years how they opened it.
