yeah so there's a restoration of the #DavidBowie / #ZiggyStardust and the Spiders from Mars concert film coming out?
There are bits of the original on youtube, and also bits of the restoration, and in at least one case they overlap.
Now, I know from old reading that the raw recordings were technical disasters, and even getting the original version out was an herculean effort - a "forensic miracle" is how I've heard it described, even if they only really managed to make it up to "okay."
But times have changed, and, well.
Here's a single frame before and after and you'll see what I mean. The sound difference is... similar in degree. Particularly in the mix. Take a look:
The "moving walkways" pass close to local stars fairly far from their suns. Each "walkway" consists of two columns of dust moving at a significant portion of the speed of light. Each is 400m in diameter, passing by our solar system on a useful trajectory toward nearby stars, above & parallel the ecliptic.
Like outbound & inbound subway tunnels. (Though, to step in these tunnels would be death)
How could we exploit the fast predictable dust highways?
I don't go to movie theaters much, we saw the Mario one recently but that was the first in quite a while. Detective Pikachu maybe before that? Hollywood doesn't really make many movies for me, and I'm fine with it 🤣 But now Ziggy is gonna be out, and the new Indiana Jones, and man, I gotta try to find time to see both.
