I start from the bottom. You can line up the buttons without needing to look in a mirror. I don't understand why anyone would start buttoning from the top. It's just less efficient. Explain your reasoning
One thing I'm missing on kbin versus Beehaw is that when I'm looking at comments, I can't quickly discern what instance a person is coming from. I have to hover over them on desktop or click into their profile on mobile to tell. This can be an important piece of information in interacting, since it can tell you if the person is...
I was just prompted that a PWA was available for kbin. I now have it installed, really great to see this. IMO it is a great stopgap until native apps are available.
For Chrome on Android the "Add to Home screen" menu option was is now "Install App" which will put an icon for/kbin in the app drawer and the app opens in a dedicated browser window sperate from chrome and its tabs.
I think old.reddit usage is so low because most interactions are on mobile anymore. I can only name two people I know who have desks with computers at them anymore.
Idk what the culture is over there but it was just a bit funny to see the entire thread I was replying to just removed. Like that doesn't happen here on kbin lmao. a bit of a culture clash there I guess....
So I notice that KBIN and BEEHAW and LEMMY all have duplicate pages dedicated to the same content. Are we as a community going to have to decide which page will be the 'main' page, will we have to subscribe to each magazine for each instance, or will they consolidate eventually?...
I agree, I've been thinking about this myself. It would be nice to have the ability to sub to a group of like communities say we call it a super community. Of course there would need to be a way to vote on what belongs to a group. Not sure if this would be something that would be accepted by the federation of something that may be done by a specific instance that focuses on aggregation.
I'm seeing the federated content, but it's hard to tell where the content came from. Currently, the only reliable way to see the source is by reading the URL when you're viewing a thread. It doesn't work well on mobile though and it doesn't work for the feed....
I agree I got tricked by a similar post today. IMO either we need to train ourselves to add full context to titles or maybe distinguish federated content someway such as different theming.
IMO for support and general help the raspberry pi will have more of an install base and general knowledge but the thin pc will be more powerful. With that said you have to make sure all hardware on the PC is supported by Linux whereas with the pi you know it is. Personally I run Home Assistant as a virtual machine so I can keep my collection on hardware to a management level.
I've left Reddit with the intent to not return as I've deleted all my accounts. And I'm trying to support this community, I spent a grand total of $0.00 in 7 years at Reddit and I've donated $25.00 to kbin so far. My only contribution to Reddit was by being the product by providing data and being advertised to.
I'm not thinking of it in terms of beating them I just want a service where the number one goal is user experience not investor experience. But the growth needs to be organic or everyone will be turned off to these alternative when they falter under an unmanageable load, the current influx has already strained all of these services. So let's focus on building a great community and watch the organic growth bloom.
I agree it stung, my oldest was 7 years and I had contemplated keeping it but ultimately I deleted it just as I did the other two accounts I used regularly.
Love it here on this flagship server for #Kbin, but question: maybe we should find two other well-run, well-hosted servers to recommend to #Reddit users tomorrow and the next few days to avoid a crush of traffic on this one?...

I'm using KeePass currently, since I don't really want to use anything publicly hosted. But I was curious to see what other people have been using!
A few thoughts about the blackout and the future development of the Fediverse.
It started as an answer to a comment, but then I figured it might be worth a post on it's own....
Now that federation is starting to work, the experience is a bit funny. Already had experiences with lemmy and beehaw threads just being purged lol

A lot subreddits end their blackout tomorrow. Will you go back to Reddit, or continue with kbin and the Fediverse?
