Don’t kid yourself. Reddit was valuable to pretty much all of you or else you wouldn’t continuously shitpost about it.

Also I know you’re a former redditor because you’re parroting the same tired-ass old line that is top comment on every thread about something bad happening to someone or some thing they don’t like. Get some new material.

EDIT: Speaking of getting new material, I should try not to be as snarky. Get the alien out of your head, my man. We don’t need to do that to entertain ourselves anymore. I apologize to @errer, and I take that shit back. I hope you got a laugh out of it as intended, even though there was no real way to tell it was supposed to be a bit cheeky.

It did still frustrate me to see all that knowledge just hand-waved like what happened was no big deal. I guess “couldn’t have happened to a nicer boardroom” or something would have clicked better lol but I’d imagine we’re probably on the same page about it at the end of the day.

Anyway, let’s all be cool, Lemmy fucking rocks, we’re nice here, save the sarcasm for mocking actual malice instead of eating each other. I’ll try to be better.

Any reason why I wouldn't be able to see the contents of a time machine backup drive made on a Mac OS Ventura machine, in Finder on a Mac OS High Sierra machine?

I did not encrypt the time machine backup on the Ventura machine. High Sierra supports APFS. I can see that the disk has a large quantity of used space and yet I can’t see any accessible files or folders on the drive.

That’s a pretty shit backup solution, if it’s not even able to restore older backups

I know you don’t believe in god but could you at least believe in using meme templates correctly? Lol

Isn’t Hexbear the ex-ChapoTrapHouse subreddit that started their own sub with blackjack and hookers?

I.e. they created (and, importantly, modified) their own Lemmy instance. And, supposedly, they’re working to fix what they broke, so they can rejoin with the larger fediverse without losing their content?

So before we wax paranoid about the intentions of lemmyworld admins, shouldn’t we consider that this might just be a temporary measure to prevent technical issues while they bring their fixes into production?

Let’s just wait until LW admins make their announcement before we pass judgement. I fully agree there is no political reason to defederate from them. I don’t know if their community is problematic but everything I’ve heard would suggest otherwise. And I do not know the timeframe or technical details of their supposed plan to refederate. So again, while I agree with you, I think perhaps it is a bit early for speeches.

It would be great if someone convinced him to make “More Ron 2024” campaign signs 😆

I‘ve gone “oh it must be Ctrl-shift-W to get a window back” and made my problem even worse before. This is a welcome change.

Thus successfully agitating liberals into censoring a word that originally was created by the black community to highlight the calling out of systemic racism and it’s lasting effects on society.

Which means the assholes win.

It’s the same crowd that’s like “Elon Musk must be a GENIUS because he’s RICH. What have YOU done?”

For the people who use their Switch as a portable, An OLED is an extremely nice upgrade over an LCD screen. The response times, the color clarity, and the versatility in a wide range of lighting conditions is a great feature.

But yeah, if you just play at home in the living room, who cares.

Aren’t you supposed to yield to cars ahead of you? I think both were at fault for being on the inside and back a bit when it was pretty obvious that whoever is in front is going to squeeze to the apex, especially when there is traffic to their outside.

That being said, T1 at the start is always chaos and it’s surely not easy to keep track of where every single other car is and what they’re doing. I don’t really blame Piastri, and I wouldn’t blame Russel like I had if he hadn’t been all indignant like “he just turned into me what was he doing?” when he’d thrown himself down the inside a few other times and suffered the same fate. Like, mate the problem is trying to make that move in a crowd…live to fight another lap! And, to be fair, he seems to do it a lot less now.

I think in this case, “banned” is referring to “paying workers below minimum hourly wage because they’re expected to make up the difference by convincing our patrons to generously donate +20% of their dinner bill”, not “citizens will be fined/incarcerated if they give someone money of their own free will”

He mentioned it to the other drivers in the cooldown room too, and they agreed. I guess after the rain the wind really was a big factor.

And, if you’ve reached Gopher Ted, you might respond with “Go for Gopher Ted”

Roger, Roger! What’s our vector, Victor?

Tower to radio clearance, over!

That’s Clarance Over!

What? Huh? Who?!?

An interesting case of moderation in the fediverse (blog.ownlifeful.com)

A small group of people were offended by a joke that unintentionally came across transphobic, and as a result this persons account was blacklisted. Even after getting the account reinstated, there were lasting complications with the state of the account (these probably technical issues) and the account was basically lost for...

No one knows who you are on the internet, and in case you’ve been living under a rock, the bigots are out in force to troll, to belittle, and to shame anyone who is different.

I think the moderation in this case was a bit to heavy handed, yeah. But, I also don’t blame them for being on a hair-trigger. Read a mod log sometime, you might jump at shadows too if you saw what the actual assholes have been up to.

Pedantic correction: you only get one answer from a single guard. You can’t ask both for an answer, even if they’re both within earshot.

Is there anywhere I can watch the race? I have Fubo and their DVR sucks and when schedules change it doesn’t change the recording time. I got an hour of college football and SportsCenter 😖

HomeAssistant runs locally on a Raspberry Pi or small PC or VM, and the companion apps for phones can transmit location data back to it, although in my experience they don’t always update frequently.

Running locally means you own the data. The only problem is that the barrier to entry is a bit technical, as you’ll need to either set up a VPN and have the phones connected to it, or expose it to the internet.

I also notice that the job you apply for seems to be a different value than what is displayed on the page. Seems like the documentation needs updating as well 😔

I think it would need to be a patent, not a copyright. Also, Hall effect sensors were in use before someone decided to put them into a joystick. I would hope that “use the thing for which it was designed” isn’t patentable but, knowing the USPTO when it comes to technology…

Nintendo would have solidified the design and specs of the SoC and committed to a bulk contract for them just before we saw some big leaps in hardware; specifically in GPU and ARM SoCs, memory bandwidth and PCIe bus performance, and chip die resolution.

Think about where mobile processors were in 2014; it’s been almost 9 years. Think about where Apple silicon is now (also an ARM SoC platform). We’re truly “living in the future”.

Since the products were already in consumer hands as these innovations where happening, it was too late to change anything. It’s a rock and a hard place; especially for Nintendo who caters to so many casual enjoyers - if you upgrade the hardware, you’re gonna need to do another launch. The alternative would be that people with older switches wouldn’t be able to run newer games. You also don’t want to anger your customers by saying “remember that $400 you spent 3 years ago? Yeah you’re gonna need to go ahead and give us another $400”. Additionally, if they had done that, we’d probably be complaining about THAT machine being underpowered now. The Switch was selling like hotcakes regardless, they weren’t going to disrupt that revenue. Money talks and the world told Nintendo what they wanted, whether they meant to or not.

Now that even 1st party titles are struggling on the system, the writing is on the wall, the tech has improved massively, and consumers are warming to the idea of a new console, it makes sense that Nintendo would have been doing the legwork to be at the point when suppliers are leaking info, when investor calls subtly reveal dates when at a minimum we’ll get our first official info, etc. I bet they’ll start shipping dev kits in the fall (if they haven’t already) if all this info is accurate.
