Exactly his point - you have space. There are some roads where I live that you are lucky to drive your car down the road with cars parked on both sides. The other thing is, it is unsafe to turn around in the road. Using a drive way is a safer option. Finally, I really don’t want to be in your driveway, I’m there for 30 seconds at most if there aren’t any cars coming.
Castle Rock v. Gonzales for anyone curious about the SCOTUS opinion that says cops only have a duty to protect property.
And for those interested in is police really have to protect and serve, look up “Police duty to protect” online and feel free to start on the wiki. It’s astonishing how little police actually have to do. As someone trying to become a cop, this is one of my biggest issues with the field outside of blatant racism.
They had a lot of ideas to revitalize the game, and they left out things like a map that actually changed and had storms and stuff that rolled through the map. They also just didn’t have enough endgame content. Over all, there was a lot they could have done to fix it, but at the same time EA just shut the game development down right as things were getting started.
This should actually be #1. Last thing I want for the fediverse is for it to become a CP haven because we lack proper moderation. I recently received an amazing presentation on the issue of CP distribution from a seasoned officer, and CP is a genuine and dangerous issue. Go look up what sextortion is.
This is exactly why I’m joining law enforcement. I hate stupid cops. So I plan on taking a spot that could have been given to a dumbass. Understandably, this is probably devicive, but it’s the best answer I could come up with.
So I’ve realized that in conversations I’ll use traditional terms for men as general terms for all genders, both singularly and for groups. I always mean it well, but I’ve been thinking that it’s not as inclusive to women/trans people....
Best way to have active accounts is to avoid lurking. I’ve found myself falling into the trap where I act like I’m on reddit or YouTube and I don’t want to give them free user engagement. The exact opposite of Lemmy.
In my opinion, people don’t mind hearing what you have to say. I wouldn’t call an upvote content. So I think comments and posts, if you are feeling daring on any given day, make for a better experience and let’s people be more social.
Basically, if everyone says something and interacts, this place will feel a lot more lively.
I can get behind that logic. And I entirely agree that the point of language is to be understood. I will die on that hill with you. The only reason I bring up Dan Machi is that by using the English name, people judge the anime quickly, when ultimately the anime does not align with its title. In this case, using language to avoid prejudgement makes a difference.
But that is an exception. Not the rule. So in that vein, I concede to your argument.
As mentioned deeper in the thread, I agree that this is an edge case. I should have considered that when making my original argument. However, this edge case is brought up in an attempt to explain that not ever scenario should have the same solution. Leading me back to my point, that we should use the names that best serve the purpose of the speaker and/or their audience.
Ultimately, as stated, language is meant to be used for the sake of being understood. I’m not saying use Japanese names because they are better, but because they might be preferred by an individual. And if the audience becomes confused, then perhaps the person using the Japanese name should simply get off their high horse and use the English name instead.
