Big appreciation to all of you who follow and who like, share, and reply (even if it's to point out a typo) ✌️.
Amidst the shifting sands of AI slop, curated algorithms favouring specific types of content, and a broader shift to YouTube and Reddit for news, it often feels like blogs like mine are going the way of the elves in Lord of the Rings 🧝🏻♂️.
Your support, especially on a platform like this one, means a lot, so thank you!
the architecture text i'm translating: "the doors are a crucial invention that allows people and also things to be taken not only into the building, but also removed from it." hm quite.
@elperronegro Mojeek is interesting - a British company - and a completely independent index. Metasearch is peculiar, and still relies on the others. Kagi - I would finish the free tier in a day, and not quite ready to shell out money for search 🤔 - but maybe I could give it a little try! 😄👏

Being cut off from Search today means I'm left to my own devices to come up with a searing nickname for it: #SearchApocalypse is the current front runner. I think we can do better.
During today's #SearchApocalypse I've been mysteriously drawn to plucky British (!) Search Engine, Mojeek. At first glance they're doing a lot that I like:
They've also partnered with the Mullvad browser, one of the best choices for default browsing Privacy, as reported in exhaustive detail on Privacytests.org
Of course, the proof is in the usage pudding and results so far have been...unspectacular...but it is early days and I think I'm going to give them a road test for a while and see how I get on.
@creative_xl8 I had already switched off all the AI options on my laptop, but this morning it was happening on my mobile phone, before I had got round to switching them off. Then I switched them off, and the same thing continued happening. I think DuckDuckGo is simply down at the moment ... 🤷♂️
@pabloniusmonk ... Mmm 🤔 Bing on its own seems to work, though all search engines that depend on Bing's third-party service don't. Ayyyy, Microsoft! 😬 Another reminder we didn't need that monopolies are bad, and diversity is good.
I'd love to be able to say that I'm rich and clever enough to have built an infinity pool. But ... I'm not. Its the reflections in our coffee table :sablobsmilehappy: :dance_cool_doge:
Interesting day yesterday doing a via ferrata whilst being filmed by the BBC as part of an upcoming TV series. Not allowed to mention details but it was great to see how professional film crews set up to capture such things. One thing that struck me ... "Aren't all the film crew (4 cameramen, producer, sound man, director, fixer etc) so young? Or is it that I am just so old 😀 Anyway, a lot of fun!
@pabloniusmonk It does confirm that nurses take pride in wearing their uniforms, and that they take that pride with them when they change out of their uniforms, but also that there is a perceived lack of recognition from society. They were suddenly appreciated during the Covid peak, and then that appreciation rapidly dropped off. Here's to appreciating the work of nurses! 👏
