#NixOS #Nix foundation again choosing to accept an arms dealer as a conference sponsor.

Pathetic.

@chrism Hey Chris I came across one of your Nix videos (thankyou for spreading the good word!) and noticed a Keybase icon in your dock.

In case you had not come across it, I figured I would toss a http://keyoxide.org recommendation - nicely handling the identity side of the Keybase equation.

I established myself there before someone at Zoom HQ trips over a cable, not bothering to plug it back in.

Gifcities is pretty badass: https://gifcities.org/

Clicked around a bit, did a search for scifi, ended up on CYBERDYKES: https://web.archive.org/web/20091020025243/http://geocities.com/CYBERDYKES/index.html

I'm probably just gonna stay mostly offline today and pretend that is still the shape of the web.

Had the opportunity to bring Unsettled to the table for the first time. Taking a break mid-game, having a blast so far :)

@thelinuxEXP Looks like Resolve packaging is quite up to date these days (seemingly automated now) and split in the two editions: https://search.nixos.org/packages?channel=23.11&size=50&sort=relevance&type=packages&query=davinci

Could install Nix on whatever current distro and see if it addresses your concerns? IIRC this was a roadblock last you wanted to try out NixOS for a longer stretch?

Utech just evicted seven times more people than comprised the entirety of the company when I left.

It would seem safe to assume that the clowns who have conducted this charming human experiment all the way up & down that 7x are not to be found among those on the street.

Most of the 23rd was spent on holiday celebration stuff, but I did find a little time in the morning to upcycle a 2015 MacBook pro to running latest NixOS, full GPU w. Vulkan & Wayland support too.

The minion greatly appreciates the upgraded Roblox experience.

Next upcycle projects are replacing worn microswitches on otherwise excellent mice, and investigating a reverse-engineering project to auto-boot an old iMac with a nice display into target display mode.

Reminder that #Murderbot will be downloading the latest shows, while editing itself out of camera feeds, and definitely not dropping inputs as it has an unplanned emotion - tomorrow.

You were warned.

Anyone know of a good way I can have some service set as an gateway which I can then toggle on/off - killing all traffic I route that way?

Yes, I am looking for an easier way of manually cutting teenager internet access.

A couple of weeks ago I finally decided to stop postponing and just start the workday switching my to .

It really is very nice and the choice of making it an easier conversion from than Dvorak was certainly appreciated.

Aside from needing to focus a bit when I type old remembered passwords, I am basically back to pre-switch speeds with only occasional typos.

Reduced finger travel is very noticeable and using Qwerty boards is fine after a minute or two of "hang on..."

Wrestled a barely-put-together, hardly-documented python setup for ages.

Finally locked the initial works-for-now-on-this-specific-install stab in a proper works-for-real-anywhere-installed Nix configuration + patches for sanity (hey, how about actual entry points and less proof-of-concept runners - just for kicks?).

I like Python the language. I am not a fan of its tooling and environment.

Very nice open & helpful community thankfully :)

When disc sets out of the blue break otherwise consistent naming...

Show-D1, Show-D2, Show-D3, ..., Show-D11, Show, Show, Show, Show-D15, Show-D16.

No! Bad! Why no QA for this shit or just anybody in the process from mastering to gold to print going "... hang on - wasn't this supposed to...?"

Oh, I have yet to settle on a good RSS client, meaning:

  • No ads.
  • Support for feed groups/folders.
  • Fairly minimalist feed overview.
  • A "today" view.
  • Per-feed settings of "always show the reader-view-site for a post - not the feed content".

I guess more or less "feedly, but no ads or SASS".

"Read You" is what I'm currently running - which doesn't do the per-feed reader view setting and worse opens post links in the system browser. Otherwise it is really nice.

Ok all this drama aside, super excite for by my #fairphone 5 shipping notification listing expected arrival as Monday - so I'll be able to pick it up Tuesday :)

That gives me this weekend to rig a #NextCloud #NixOS install so I can dump all my #iCloud photos to it. Excite :)

With my trusty iPhone 7 starting to really fall apart this year (not just software and a potentially replaceable battery), I actually found myself downright giddy preordering the 5 the other day.

It’s basically what I’ve been wanting my iPhone longevity to be (prior to the 7 I had a 3GS), with a dash of more software control.

Would have been nice if they had also countered the madness of modern want for large displays, but only so much target group downscaling can be done I guess ;)

No site navigation bleeding in, no comments, no random buttons. Just the content you pointed it at.

Return of Cardboard Sunday. Made the pitch for Black Angel and off we went to Spes.

I dig the game in there, but we had broad agreement that it isn’t done favours by the iconography and clash of player- & function colours.

We had a nice relaxed four player session and agreement that we’ll probably be well in the flow next time - with the iconography mostly deciphered.

So I’ve tried a number of different #ebook & #comic readers over the years, but I just uninstalled my remaining alternatives.

Somehow I had entirely missed KOReader and it really renders everything else I tried pointless. The chosen domain is apt. KOReader does rock: http://koreader.rocks/

Excellent rendering & input, super customisable, great format support, integrates with #Wallabag, well supported & developed.

Brrr. So from Unity 2021 LTS to 2022 LTS a .net target change took place, forcing our patching flow to move to .netstandard (from .netframework where it had been sitting due to Unity legacy).

Not the most hilarious of tasks, but stubbornly fixed now - ready for the next internal project on the "new" LTS :)

I'm mostly just glad there's no longer a development target platform factor in this whole mess, given our use of nix for dependencies (previously we pulled them from the Unity install).

AngryAnt, to proxmox
@AngryAnt@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

TIL: #Proxmox doesn't by default enable any L3 cache use from VMs, which I suppose is fair enough, but it also doesn't expose the setting in UI - so discoverability of that fact isn't great.

Prefixed my target VM config file with args: -cpu 'host,topoext=on,l3-cache=on' to address this.

: If you, like me, occasionally find yourself wishing for the heyday of the iOS Mastodon client Metatext, know that it lives once more - through the Feditext project.

They are working to narrow the feature delta with Mastodon - among other good stuff I’m sure. It’s not out yet, but they are seeking beta testers via DM at @Feditext :)
