What are you reading right now?

I am looking at starting a series by Yasmin Galenorn, midway through Wired for Story by Lisa Cron, and reading a study guide for case management. I’m a mood reader.

@Kencf618033 @bookstodon @audhd For someone only passingly familiar with philosophy, where would you recommend someone start down that rabbit hole?

BZBrainz,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@tinebeest @Kencf618033 @bookstodon @audhd I would like that! I apologize if I’m missing the link or the info on the radio show. Would you be able to direct me a me further, please? Thank you!

Did you know that if you live in the US, you can ask your to order ? Budget constraints exist, but if we don't ask for our bookstores and public libraries to carry books written by for autistics, many voices are missing from the digital & physical spaces. Please consider how your requests help diversify what is available publically and keep expanding your requests to include more voices.

Thank you for adding more detail—I needed a librarian’s nuance! ♥️

A few I’ve requested at my library are Neuroqueer Heresies: Notes on the Neurodiversity Paradigm, Autistic Empowerment, and Postnormal Possibilities by Nick Walker. The anthology Gender Identity, Sexuality and Autism: Voices from Across the Spectrum and Unusual Medicine: Essays on Autistic Identity and Drug Addiction by David Gray-Hammond.

@haven4books If you run across good, lesser known titles from autistic authors—of any genre—feel free to send them way too.

@DarkMatterZine @haven4books @bookstodon @bookwyrm I’m a little familiar with Sisters in Crime! I’ve booked marked your most so I can check it out when I get home.

Hello people. I'm considering making an account but I have a question: Does it have a social community aspect like goodreads where you can make updates and comment on others' updates? Or is it like storygraph that's mainly about registering your reads and then see graphs/stats?

Thanks in advance 😌

BZBrainz,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@iamgaarden thank you for asking this!

Sometimes I bookmark social media posts that I want to respond to but need additional time to consider because my understanding is still unfolding. I may look through the dictionary or urban dictionary, try to find further social context, ask myself if I am being too literal, and then I'm lost in thought or have fallen into a rabbit hole. I do this offline too. Sometimes that means I may never enter the conversation.

@yourautisticlife @actuallyautistic @audhd Me too! Oh the shiny things…

Don’t be edgy.

Edgy is being passive-aggressive.

Being passive-aggressive is an NT communication style, not an autistic one.

Some autistic people internalize this as part of their masks.

If you want to be passive-aggressive, just be “aggressive” and say what you want. Be you. Don’t sugar coat.

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistics I know this conversation has grown since the original toot, but I wanted to wrap it back around. I dislike passive-aggressive communication. I agree. But what does this have to do with being edgy? 'Edgy' may mean something different to me, possibly a colloquial difference. I reviewed the dictionary and still can't quite understand fully. How are you using the word 'edgy' in this toot?

@theautisticcoach Thank you.

Thinking it over... if organisations won't set up on Mastodon but they will on Threads, I'd like the ability to follow them from here without signing up to Threads.

Totally understand @aussocialadmin's caution at this stage, but would be good to revisit when it becomes clearer how Threads will use federation.

@jayalane @DarkMatterZine @timrichards @aussocialadmin @bookstodon has been filling my TBR with books across genres. I love it. I’m reading two, down from four, and vowed I’d not crack open another until I finish them both.

Author/Writing Retreat Day 1- We took a long break from writing to see the ocean. I’m utterly fascinated and soothed by water. It’s easy for me to spend hours lost in my head by the shore where I live, but we have a well protected bay at home not the open ocean. Here it’s long stretches of the Pacific. I watched the white caps until it was time to leave and even now at the B&B I can hear the ocean waves.

I know there has been much discussion in many different forums about referring to us as Autistics versus Autists. Fair warning—i use both.

More often than not I try to use the same terms the majority uses though. Is that also masking?

BZBrainz,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@JeremyMallin I use #autistic in most public spaces. I am more likely to use #AuDHD or #Autist when I am in specific spaces where these terms are understood.@audhd @actuallyautistic
