I’m simultaneously blown away and saddened by the images of desolate planets and moons posted by ‪@nasa‬.

Blown away because, hey, gloriously clear images of good-lord-look-at-that.

Saddened because our perfect jewel of a planet—unique in our neighborhood in its ability to sustain life and love—is being murdered by a species too stupid and selfish to appreciate its miraculous good fortune.

Out here in California it’s aspirational strawberry season, the one where beautiful red berries appear on store shelves.

One of California’s primary strawberry growing regions is a 10 minute drive from here and its produce is available—in organic form, yet—at the local farmers markets.

The Taylor Swift vinyl retails for $46 and is already going for $150+ on eBay and Discogs. This is why we can’t have nice things (heh) and so against the spirit of Record Store Day.

@Gartenberg @film_girl Just by way of historical perspective for the younger members of our audience, when CDs really took hold, record companies purged their vinyl inventory to the tune of $5 and $6 per shrink-wrapped LP (versus the $15 they charged for CDs). I added maybe 50 classic albums to my collection in those few weeks.

I’m still shocked by today’s vinyl prices (even the used stuff).

@strngwys @film_girl @Gartenberg I don’t doubt it, but that’s exactly the argument record companies made for higher CD prices—new technology, not enough factories.

Oddly, when there were enough factories, prices didn’t drop.

@film_girl @strngwys @Gartenberg A lot of 80s American vinyl was pretty terrible—really thin. If you were a fancy person you bought imports.
