Broken,

They advertise way too much and way too aggressively.

I understand your feeling, but I think massive advertising is needed. This is high level marketing, basically telling the general public there is another way other than big tech. Most people don’t know this to know there are options to choose…so they don’t.

Broken,

I just filled out my survey and noted twice that I use Lemmy and not their current communities. Maybe they’ll listen if enough of us ask.

Broken,

If you need more storage, the secondhand market is better for you anyway.

Though I just saw a 7 pro with 512GB on Woot for under $500. That’s a decent deal.

Regular Pixel 8s are going for 500 on a deal.

Broken,

Proton and Mullvad are the only 2 I’d trust. I suspect that they get similar results.

Proton has gotten a lot better since launch, but it’s always a moving target with these things. I really only have issues with some store sites that just don’t load with a VPN, which only tells me I don’t want to shop there.

Broken,

I 100% do not want my folders sorted alphabetically. The importance and workflow of my folders doesn’t fit into that scheme.

I love the fact that I can drag my folders into my preferred order.

Broken,

Numbering the folders isn’t dynamic though. If you add a folder later you might need to rename others, which is annoying in itself but then would break any filters applied to them too. I’d rather just organize them as I want manually. It’s not hard to drag and drop them.

Broken,

Just a tad late. Should have been posted on 4/26. (Which is “alien day” because the planet is LV426)

Besides lemmy, what's another good reddit alternative?

Hi! Recently exiled reddit user, here. I’m curious what other alternatives to reddit there are, besides Lemmy, and Raddle, of course. Also, imho, Phuks is a good alternative, there’s no hate-speech (that I’m aware of) and people are pretty respectful. Anyways, let’s hear your suggestions! Thank you!

Broken,

Lmao, I’m right there with you. Was looking at privacy type stuff so went to .ml. Thought the communist thing was weird, but hey people are weird, whatever. I guess I’m that naive.

Broken,

I’m interested to follow the comments here. TVs are not a one size fits all product and very tough to choose between at times, even without privacy in mind.

My gut is that the choice will be panel based, with the option to turn microphones off.

I’ve been looking at the LG C3 and would not connect internet and then turn the mic off. If there’s better options I’d love to hear them.

Broken,

The problem with YouTube is there isn’t an alternative.

Anytime I think it’s morphed to a state where people will leave for the next great thing, they don’t.

The content is there, and alternatives don’t have that backing them so it’s too inconvenient to move on. Once people have that pain point, they go back.

Broken,

The problem is that YouTube music is vastly inferior to google play music.

I’m not a fan of services that make themselves worse and then charge you for it.

The paid experience is a decent one, but it isn’t the same as service that I want. I want to control what I watch and not be fed what they think I want to watch.

But I don’t disagree that paying for a good service is worth it.

Broken,

I’ll admit I need to do my part. I haven’t gotten a good pic recently though.

Broken,

Forget the results. This seems underhanded and manipulative.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s kind of cool…actually really cool. But the fact that it was essentially an experiment exploiting gamers without their knowledge sucks.

Let’s change it to gamers solving mini games to generate cryptocurrency for T2. Feels a bit more exploitive that way right? But we should feel proud because it was for the greater good? (Insert hot fuzz meme here)

Broken,

Oh that’s a relief. The article didn’t say so, and given the climate these days I’m not ready to give benefit of the doubt. Thanks for reeling me in. 😉

Broken,

They are very much in sync. Even though each game and story is independent, characters have history and the games are part of that.

Enjoy! It’s a great series

Broken,

This looks like you asked AI to make a keyboard 😂

Broken,

I don’t know that to be true based on what I’ve heard. But assuming it is, it’s still clearly not enough for a creator to survive. So a “fair” payment is still required.

Broken,

I get that. I am mostly there too, but people go where the people are. I’ve tried Rumble and Odysee but there needs to be an exodus from YT by creators. I thought that would happen, but people stick with what they know (fear of the unknown).

Hell, it took me a long time to jump to Lemmy. But the Reddit train went too far so I’m gone. But even now the #1 sub I was in is not represented in the fediverse so I’m SOL. Kind of a tangent, but you get what I mean.

Broken,

That’s fair. I just figured when they introduced the characters and world building and I didn’t find most of it interesting, then the following would be similar.

Broken,

For proton? They’ve always offered more storage on a paid tier over free. Plus they give you additional storage every year you’re subscribed.

Anyone else find this annoying? (sh.itjust.works)

That the labels for the apps get truncated so you can only read “Proton” plus the first letter of the app. I’m only able to distinguish based on the icons which isn’t great because Pass and Drive are similar colors, and Pass and VPN, and Drive and Calendar are similar shapes.

Broken,

Same here. My android icons all have full names. I haven’t messed with icon or text sizing at all.

Broken,

I’m not sure how any service will help with your YouTube problem. I’m a bit unclear on the details you described, but switching emails doesn’t change YT dynamics at all.

But I can comment on Proton. I willingly pay through the nose for their services, to get the suite and support their cause. I recommend them to everybody.

But their services aren’t perfect.

They have their own contact list (which makes sense since it’s encrypted) but that essentially means you have to maintain 2 lists now (because your phone can’t access the list for calls and messages).

Their calendar is functional, but lacking compared to other modern calendars. I’ve used it as my primary calendar for a while now, so its usable, but I mention its not great because the calendar seems to be a big feature for you. I’m testing out Fossify Calendar myself now.

Proton Pass is meh. A lot of people like it, and I haven’t tried it since it launched (or maybe was beta) so it wouldnt be fair to critique the details, but I like Bitwarden better. Regardless though, I don’t like the idea of my password manager password being the same as my proton account. That’s not an option though.

But overall yes, the proton suite is great and I think well worth the money. Just understand it’s not Google, nor will anything be like Google. In lots of ways that’s a good thing.

Broken,

I appreciate this list. Half of them I’ve never heard of, so it’s a treasure trove to me.

Broken,

As an aside, are there any Lemmy communities for Elliott?
