Dima,

Either retail park or industrial estate in the UK, depending on if most of the businesses are retail/shops or not

[SOLVED] Drop ENTR media keys on linux

I recently bought a Drop ENTR, and I would like to use the media keys. On the drop.com website it says that using FN + the F-keys should work, but “Fn hotkeys may work with Windows operating system only.”. Well, for me it doesn’t work. Any ideas as to why that could be, or how I could go about creating a workaround?...

Dima,

You should be able to see what key codes the OS is receiving, but I don’t remember how, will try to update this later with a link

Dima,

You could look at setting up a discord bridge on the matrix server to bridge messages between the two. Pine64 have had something like that for quite a while on their discord & matrix.

Also echoing what’s been said already, I did initially think this was some air pods style product from Pine64, as they prefix almost anything they make with Pine

Dima,

If you’ve just opened a new tab, your hand is on the mouse and the page you want is one click away, why bother typing?

Dima,

Right, but you asked why not type it, I was giving you a reason why. That’s also why I put in the disclaimer about having your hand on the mouse.

Dima,

Most ovens (at least in the UK) do have a timer setting that will turn the oven off when it’s done and also a way to delay it starting until a certain time. They aren’t the default though, most people will just set the basic kitchen timer on the oven and not even realise there’s the extra functions available.

Dima,

Yeah, it’s not FOSS, but sleep as android is great. You can set various “captchas” that need to be completed to turn the alarm off, you can connect it to smart home stuff to turn on/off lights or open curtains and the general customisability for the alarm settings is extensive.

Dima,

Or an indentured slave to the British empire having your kids eaten by cannibals because you didn’t make your rubber picking quota.

WTF are you referring to here? I mean I’m guessing that you’re referring to a historical event, rather than making shit up?

Dima,

I know this is (probably) a joke, but there’s a modern reverse engineered version: github.com/k4zmu2a/SpaceCadetPinball
Someone’s also packaged it for Flatpak: flathub.org/…/com.github.k4zmu2a.spacecadetpinbal…

Dima,

Looks like the 5.6.1-2 release on Arch moved from using the published GitHub releases to just using the git repository directly, which as I understand avoids the exploit (because the obfuscated script to inject the exploit is only present in the packaged tarballs and not the git repo itself)

…archlinux.org/…/881385757abdc39d3cfea1c3e34ec09f…

Dima,

Why even bother having swap at that point?

Dima,

I use Arch on a Framework 13 and 125% scaling in KDE. It works fine and I honestly forget that it’s not at 100% scale. The only big issue I’ve seen is when you have multiple monitors with different scaling, some applications can get a bit confused, especially if the edge of the window is touching the edge between two monitors with different scaling.

Not OP, but thanks for the suggestion, seems like they might be a good choice for wide fitting walking boots and the like, and they’ve got plenty of outdoor shops listed in the UK as stockists

On the made in the UK note though, seems like many of their boots are manufactured in a factory in Italy?

Dima,

I’m using the KDE “Mountain” wallpaper on my desktop, which seems to be based on an image of the Annapurna massif in Nepal by Daniel Leone on Unsplash
https://files.catbox.moe/ehgwvz.png

My phone wallpaper is this mountain one from Alex Rainer on Unsplash (I like dark wallpapers like this for OLED screens):

Unsplash and pixabay can be good for finding high-res images to use as wallpapers
Sidenote: if anyone wants I can share the high res KDE wallpaper image, it disappeared from my system when I tried out a plasma 6 RC and I had to extract it from a different system to get it back

Dima,

@testaccount posted this previously:

In 61 a migration is borked, this caused some appsettings to be switched around. So previsously if you had custom tabs enabled, this would enable the prevent screenshots setting.
Now I fixed this, so this means those who changed them will see them swap again. And those who haven’t upgrade yet won’t notice anything. There should be release tomorrow which address all the bugs introduced in this update. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Suggest some explicit content free game ideas.

I’m sure there’s plenty of free porn games…
Oh right, you probably meant games without explicit content

Looks like Factorio should run on those specs if the graphics card supports DX11

Wow, you must be able to chop loads of wood with all those axes 🪓

Apparently my love language is installing @linux on the laptops of people I really care about.

Dima,

OP tagged Linux in the post and that specific tag actually links to !linux resulting in the Mastodon post being posted to the community

Dima,

I believe they’re referring to vehicle tax that you have to renew each year

Gentle reminder to everyone that support for ends in about 90 weeks. Many computers can't upgrade to Win 11 so here are your options:

  1. Continue on Win 10 but with higher security risks.
  2. Buy new and expensive hardware that supports Win11.
  3. Try a beginner friendly distro like . It only takes about two months to acclimate.

Dima,

Anyone that still wants a supported version of win 10, look into Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC (2021) - supported until 2032 and can be activated by MAS with HWID

opinions on hide.me free VPN?

Hello! I recently set up my first home server, and would like to set up qbittorrent on it. I tried using protonVPN, which is what I use on desktop, but got rate limited because torrenting on the free plan is not allowed. What do you think of hide.me vpn? it has a CLI linux version, I think I can install it inside the docker...

Dima,

Until they randomly ban you and shut down your free services

Dima,

I don’t think kefir counts, as OP is asking about milk alternatives, but kefir is (at least traditionally) made from dairy milk.

If you’ve not tried oat milk, I recommend it, I think it’s nicer than soy and it has that creaminess to it that you say you want.
