Estiar,

He’s not. He’s waiting tables and taking orders.

Estiar,

Israel doesn’t really need the aid. They’re doing just fine militarily

Estiar,

This is the same argument that led to the red scare in the 50s. Want to unionize your workplace? That’s not the only union you want! Want to bring an anti consumerism message? Literally communism! It’s much easier to group undesirables together so you can marginalize the libertarians, evangelicals and business class in one fell swoop by labeling them Fascist

Estiar,

I’d like to point out that the political compass is a really bad construct for understanding politics. Ideology is made from smaller factors such as economics, tradition, religion, intellectualism, and other institutions. Fascism came out of socialist circles, as did Nazism. The modern political compass came out of the cold war and helped both sides justify themselves: the communists who wanted to be as far from the Nazis as possible and the Americans who wanted to be seen as the voice of the moderates. (Don’t look at the Molotov-Ribbontrop pact or Jim Crow)

The Republican party promotes Right wing populism. Elements of that include autarky, isolationism and conservatism.

Fascism is a very specific ideology, and while the leader of the Republican party Trump has some things in common with it, he is not on the war path like a true fascist would be. He is less imperialist than previous presidents. He wants to pull out from NATO and abandon the Kurdish people in Syria. Again, Trump is a populist. He did not come out of socialist circles preaching an anti-elitist message.

In the Hamas/Israel war, why does Palestine have "hostages" but Israel has "prisoners"?

This occurred to me while listening to the news. When they exchange people it’s always hostages for people held in Palestine and prisoners for people held in Israel. Why is that? Is it just perception or is there a practical difference?...

Estiar,

True. Al Jazeera is a Qatari state run media enterprise. They’re pretty reliable on news on things outside the Middle East, but tend to have a massive bias when it comes to matters of Qatar’s interests.

Estiar,

Please remember, just because Trump doesn’t respect the rule of law, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t either.

Estiar,

You probably don’t work for a large company who has a duty to their shareholders. Large companies tend to save any penny they can because it scales up across the company. The workers at the bottom have no way to communicate with their employers too.

Small business has a shorter hierarchy, where you can go talk to the head of the company. They’re usually private companies that don’t have public shareholders.

RFK Jr. spent years stoking fear and mistrust of vaccines. Here's who gets hurt by Kennedy's work (apnews.com)

Deep in their grief a few months later, Gina and Padrig Fahey received news that shocked them to their core: A favorite photo of their beloved son was plastered on the cover of a book that falsely argues COVID-19 vaccines caused a spike of sudden deaths among healthy young people....

Estiar,

That’s an easy cease and desist letter right there. Failing that, there could be quite the copyright lawsuit there

Black student suspended over his hairstyle to be sent to an alternative education program (www.aol.com)

After serving more than a month of in-school suspension over his dreadlocks, a Black student in Texas was told he will be removed from his high school and sent to a disciplinary alternative education program on Thursday....

Estiar,

Then that school policy is fine too, as it bans Anyone from wearing dreadlocks. This applies to the white Texans, the Hispanic Texans, the Black Texans etc.

That reasoning doesn’t work. It’s targeted against a certain group of marginalized people just like the Hijab law and the same principle.

Estiar,

Didn’t know that Superboy was an Afghan Goat farmer

Estiar,

Very true. Russia doesn’t care what the US house thinks. They started the war after all. Russia continues to mobilize the war machine while the US fails to act decisively

Estiar,

I mean, if Twitter X keeps changing like it is, there will be a whole bunch of differences

Estiar,

Every day I wake up and realize that I can’t marry a Arleigh-Burke destroyer. It’s a tragedy for people like me. I thought I was the only one, but I’m glad that it’s not me but a whole systemic issue.

Bernie Sanders says President Biden will win in 2024 if he runs on a "strong progressive agenda" (www.cbsnews.com)

With the 2024 presidential race beginning to unfold, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont said he believes that President Joe Biden will again earn the Democratic nomination — and the president likely win reelection if he runs on a strong progressive campaign....

Estiar,

I don’t think you’re giving it enough credit. Those are in fact very important drugs that many seniors take. It will save seniors and the government billions of dollars that can be spent elsewhere or reduce the deficit. It stretches fixed income further than before. Is it going to fix everything? No, but it’s a great step in the right direction.

Estiar,

I guess it’s the difference between progressive change and radical change. I’m satisfied seeing progressive change more often. But keep fighting for your end goal.

Estiar,

I’d like to see the polls you found. I usually go to Five Thirty Eight for their polls, because they have a lot there. They do tend to go down as center left, and I’d like to see other polling agencies, especially those that focus on the socialist side of things

Estiar,

This has nothing to do with them. Go back to lemmygrad.

Estiar,

Just because it’s legal, doesn’t make it right.

I never understood why prisoners get paid so little. They are usually there because they don’t have financial stability in the first place. Wouldn’t a bit of savings help put them on better footing so not to turn back to crime?

Estiar,

Shells weigh a lot for a child. Unless you are using a tank with an autoloader, it may be hard after the first round

Russian Anti-War Activist Sentenced To Six Years In Prison For Internet Posts (www.rferl.org)

A court in the Russian city of St. Petersburg sentenced anti-war activist Olga Smirnova to six years in prison on August 30 on a charge of spreading fake news about the armed forces. Smirnova was also banned from administering websites for three years. Prosecutors asked for a seven-year sentence....

Estiar,

Another day in Russia, another sane person gets arrested for going against the insanity

Estiar,

The Bolshevists wanted to kill the Mensheviks, though they were both against the capitalists. It ain’t all peace and kindness on the Left

Estiar,

Well Twitter X itself was bleeding capital for years and years, so it makes sense that Truth with largely the same business model would do the same. That business model is just not sustainable

Estiar,

You’re not missing out

Estiar,

Clearly the bomb aboard Prighozhin’s plane was just defending itself
