I've decorated three denim jackets with LEDs to bring as an installation for the CETI institute in the . The CETI installations will be displayed in an abandoned GAP storefront, so this project feels particularly appropriate. Just got the basic animation working for the rain cloud jacket, and hope to find time to enhance it.

@geekmomprojects @noondlyt I adore this cloud jacket!

Reissued an invoice with a very polite email saying “hey, I think my invoice got lost amongst the handover mess but I’d like some money please”

And have received one back that basically says
Umm. Too late. Why should we pay you?

So my polite but frustrated reply:
Handovers and periods of change are difficult, but my hours were recorded at the time for (event names) in June so they should have been oncharged. If you didn’t, we can talk about it.

Mac fans: “Gaming on the Mac is awesome, and almost as good as gaming on Windows!”

5 years later

Mac fans: “God damn it! Apple just made a drastic change to Macs, and now compatibility is broken with all old games!”

@atomicpoet it’s true and I’m still mad about it

Live stage performance of Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away,” what?! Never wanted to see a play, but this may be my first if they come to The States. UK folks, they’re coming your way!

@markwyner I’ve been hanging out for this to make it to the touring circuits! Hopefully a jaunt to the UK means it’ll be on the 2025 arts festival options 🤞

Having a sort through a few boxes of books that have been staying with a friend for a while.

Have been a little dismayed at some of the books they lost along the way - mostly because my entire comic collection is gone, which included 2 complete Sandman sets, and a bunch of my weird indie comics.

But I’m delighted at some of the things that have survived. Like this copy of Oliver Twist I got for my sixth birthday.

Which reminds me of Mum going “oh. They don’t know you read big books huh”

FallenRedNinja,
@FallenRedNinja@mastodon.nz avatar

Ohh I’ve reached the box of cookbooks!

A bunch of these are going straight into the give away box coz I haven’t touched them in forever.
A few will stay for nostalgia, a few because they’re genuinely good for ideas when I have a full kitchen, a couple coz basics are important.

But uhhh
I’m staring at this beast, which must be from my Nana’s collection, and I’m torn between sending it into the world or trying to cook every dang recipe for…. Science….

A photo of the first two page spreads showing an odd line work drawing of some sort of garden nymph cooking a feast. The title repeats on the right leaf. This book is a first edition, published in 1974. The year my mum turned five.

FallenRedNinja,
@FallenRedNinja@mastodon.nz avatar

There’s a brace of books I keep entirely for nostalgia.

Some, like this, are gifts that were just for me & often I felt seen by the choices folks made.

Some are books I chose as a kid, or thrifted as a teen. Which range from books about rocks & herbology, to Owen Marshall’s short stories, to a psychology textbook I bought in high school coz it was interesting.

& some are my own copies of books I had out from the library regularly. Think Discworld, Stephen King, Douglas Adams, Octavia Butler

FallenRedNinja,
@FallenRedNinja@mastodon.nz avatar

I realise it’s a choice when I move every couple of years but out of everything in my life, books have been the only constant.

No matter where I go, when I go, who I go with. There can always be books.

Postgrad studies? Books
Crippling social anxiety? Books
Alone in a new city? Books
Family exploding? Books
Awful breakup? Books
Overwhelmed by feelings? Books
Need to cook? Books
New confusing job? Books
Need to calm the brain hamsters? Books
Always. Books.

Sometimes I really feel sorry for the people who have chosen to be my friends.

I’m staying with a friend in Rotorua for mahi. He’s a bit of a slob but his heart is good. This evening I have terrified him by saying

  • it puts the hot sauce on the coconut and eats it all up (fake bacon)
  • wash your dick hands before you touch the potato
  • it’s cheese. We’re absolutely commitin to the shittin
  • have you ever thought about how juicy fruits are neither juicy nor fruits?

Anyway in much nicer things, I won an auction for a bunch of metal spikes to stick into fabric and there’s enough there for my possibly incredibly silly embroidery idea and then some

So fuck yes

What’s a rad thing that’s happened to y’all this weekend?

Sometimes a good way to deal with your feelings is to tackle a thankless chore with loud music

So I present to you:
40 metres worth of warehouse cracks that have been weeded and mostly water blasted in the early evening shade
2 hours worth of mostly punk music
The 75 litre bin of weeds that I pulled, lightly compacted

Not pictured:
The front of the building which also got a frustrated weeding
The discovery that the parcel box has rusted away on one edge 😩
The cold soda I’m just about to chug

A long stretch of white warehouse wall Devoid of plant life util you get to the far left, where the weed bucket and a traffic cone sit

FallenRedNinja,
@FallenRedNinja@mastodon.nz avatar

@dave @curiousjay A great choice! And an amazing image 🖤

I went with killing in the name of because what punk kid can resist “fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!”

Some dodgy playing on the new telecaster, had to figure out how to record video, and audio via Ableton, then edit it all in resolve.. All that took a while.

Always end up playing like a robot when I am recording myself :/

@Rjdlandscapes @aligorith as long as I’m not the one pushing the record button, it’s almost okay. As soon as my brain is thinking about the fact we’re recording, it’s a trash fire every dang time

The only problem is that my frowny bassist face is somehow now my default face for everything except the timps 🤣

Finally managed to get to a barbers for a hair cut.

Got complimented on my hairline?
Also got complimented on the care I must take of my hair - “my father has the baby hair too, so hard to manage or look good”

And the final

“I didn’t think you would look good with mohawk like this, but it suits your potato head and baby hair. Keep it”

I. Uhh.

Thank you?

Tbf. It does look pretty good

Trying to explain to a production company that I, a blatantly genderqueer person, absolutely will not be attending a thank you event at a cafe run by TERFs

The last response was
I understand your concern but you could also be the more mature one and celebrate our successes

SIR
THEY LITERALLY SAID THAT PEOPLE LIKE ME SHOULD OFF OURSELVES NOT THAT LONG AGO

I. Fucking hell

FallenRedNinja,
@FallenRedNinja@mastodon.nz avatar

I’ve gotta get back to my luke warm mess of a day

But pals
If a queer person tells you a place is unsafe, don’t tell them to shut up and put up with

FallenRedNinja,
@FallenRedNinja@mastodon.nz avatar

I used to work in their lil venue, did a bunch of the mahi getting it set up and begging equipment so it could be a rad queer friendly performing space

Then they publicly went off the deep end
When I pointed out I was trans* they said I should rethink my life

So I did. And I left.
And haven’t been back in like six years to a place that I used to be at three to ten times a week. Where the main queer munch in this city is. And where I used to feel at home.

Obviously the most productive thing to do whilst sick and having trouble with screens above Faint Glow in Warm Tones is to think about emails I need to send when I can glare at things again.

There’s one I’ve been mulling over for a few weeks, and have honestly probably missed the window without it being weird but whatever.

Some things do genuinely need to be said

A behind the scene photo of a in progress - definitely a less glamorous part of the process though.

We’ve had the design meetings.
I’ve presented my palettes, both in words and in imagery.
We’ve talked about key beats to hit. Literally, this is a musical.

Currently I’m putting together a cue sheet, picking out important stuff that needs to happen for this week’s show before I build the big one for next week.

& building my OSC triggers for next week as I go

This is down by Britomart

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

What a fucking BOOK holy heck.
I’ll need to find a hard copy of it so I can devour it again and again, and inevitably lend it out and lose it forever. But it’ll be WORTH IT.

Up there with Let Me Sing You Gentle Songs for beautiful stories that split and twist like braided rivers before spilling back into the ocean.
Might have a new top five book ay

Ahhh excited to see that Japan managed their moon landing in the wee hours of our morning!

Hopefully the lil guy’s solar panels will kick in over the next couple of days, before it gets completely cooked, and they can work through the next parts of the mission.

But even if not - it’s a great step in the right direction for JAXA’s planned mars missions.

Saw a friend from Rotorua today who looked at me and said “you didn’t get your day off. Or today off”

Which. True facts.

Work is busy.
And we’re in a lurgy surge, both covid and general seasonal fuckery, so I’m losing about 15% of my crew to sickness on any given day

Which across 73 shifts in 8 days is 11 folks to replace at short notice. When we are in both a skills shortage and a crunchy time.

Which is why I worked yesterday
And today
And tomorrow
And the day after that
