Let’s play a game. It goes like this:

  • You repeatedly roll a 10 sided dice

  • If you roll a 1, you lose all of your inventory, armour and health stats go down to 50%

  • After rolling a 1, you then incur a multiplier for any damage incurred at every other fight

  • With each other number, you lose a side of the dice, until eventually you roll that 1

@eeyam there is the constant pain, combined with the stonewalling, minimisation and ignorance that you receive from society at large re: COVID now.

Virtually all countries have abandoned mitigations, and when you're sat there with this condition you feel very very deliberately abandoned from folk.

Every "I've been to this!" photo with people not mitigating the risk with masks, every time friends do things without you... It adds up.

    So, I’ve been on a basically paleo+rice diet since the weekend.

    pain is dramatically reduced, and my need for the meds I’ve been taking seems to be dropping (I’ve nearly missed doses as I’ve felt basically ok!)

    I took a nicotine patch off yesterday as instead of levelling me out it was just making me feel wired. I was overshooting the balance.

    I’m just trying to put together a mental map of what I /think/ is going on here…

    So, I have food intolerances, allergies, and asthma. These are likely auto-immune based.

    I have taken anti histamines and montelulast for years now to manage these.

    My theory is my COVID infection 15 months back, left my immune system acting way the hell up. Inflammation over every thing.

    So by eating a low inflammatory diet, I’m now giving daily triggers a rest, and seeing some balance

    Also though we know long COVID has multiple factors and things going on. I see it as a composite of any existing conditions or genetic tendencies combined with whatever specific damage the virus has caused on infection.

    So I don’t think for one minute this is me on the path to being cured, but it does look like I’ve just opened up another tool to help manage all of this.

    As bad/annoying/stupid as all this is, it's just pushing me further and further from the commercial web.

    I can see a future where I have some flavor of chrome installed for use with anything commercial, and the rest of the time I surf a different kind of internet entirely.

    Honestly, I'm not that bothered by the separation of the two.

    @zyk I’m reaching similar conclusions lately. I was wondering how I could defederate myself from the corporate web, as it were and was debating a separate dns system.

    There’s https://www.opennic.org/ which is basically most of what I was picturing there I guess.

    Combine that with ActivityPub and there’s could be a whole federated social side that is inoperable with the commercial side, those domains don’t exist outside of a custom dns.

    @zyk @swansinflight oh that’s interesting. That gets close I think.

    The biggest crux of anything like this I guess is whether it’s total separation as far as possible (different protocols, browsers etc etc) or somewhat interoperable still.

    I haven’t thought about this that deeply though. Just feeling that that same relief at a relatively corp free space “here” is something I want to have more of digitally

    I can now cross Start A Cooking Fire off of my bucket list. All is well, nobody got hurt, and there was zero damage. The contents of the frying pan I was using suddenly caught fire, so it was just a matter of pulling the pan off the stove and waiting a couple of seconds for the material to burn off. Still, that was pretty intense—and it’s over.

    ^^ this talks about the SARS 2003 outbreak, and the impacts on mental health in those who survive.

    It’s fucking eerie.

    It also talks about why that didn’t become a bigger outbreak. People weren’t shedding until symptomatic and the virus wasn’t deemed prone to viable mutations. Both these things are flipped the other way for COVID-19 🤦‍♂️

    We’re here, 3 years into the COVID-19 pandemic, research like this and what was known about long term post viral conditions + SARS was just ignored.

    I'm wondering about playing audio from a widget, on iOS17 with an interactive widget.

    IE, when I press a button in the widget, and it triggers an app intent, I want the app intent to play an audio file.

    I have it setup at the moment, but I get an error "ATAudioSessionClientImpl.mm:281 activation failed. status = 561,015,905"

    Has anyone achieved this already?
