Kinda miffed they didn’t include a screenshot of the colors, but I’m guessing the readability will be vastly better!

I’m still not convinced that the trial’s even going to start tomorrow. Still waiting for some 11th hour hail-mary type play to push this back a few more weeks.

insisting the House stop holding Ukraine aid hostage first

That’s probably how this is gonna end up getting through. The GOP wants aid to Israel, the Dems want aid to Ukraine. I’m putting my money on both things passing in some compromise deal.

Cutting off aid would force Israel to go “well we better hurry up and finish this war before we run out of ammo”, sending them into overdrive to cripple Hamas’ capabilities since they won’t have the Iron Dome to rely on anymore.

And of course there’s still the issue of a ceasefire not being agreed to because Hamas can’t provide Israel what it’s asking for. So how’s cutting off aid supposed to help?

At this point I don’t think Israel’s gonna stop even if they do somehow manage to eradicate Hamas from the world. Any opportunity for peaceful ends to this conflict are long gone.

Then direct intervention

Oh boy, US troops on the ground in the middle east. That’ll go well and will definitely calm things down.

Growing opposition to Democrats’ “all-out war” to block third parties from ballot (www.wsws.org)

The Democratic Party is launching an “all-out war” to block third parties from appearing on the 2024 US election ballot. This is in response to declining support for President Biden and the Democratic Party. The World Socialist Web Site has published articles exposing these anti-democratic efforts, which have received...

Rather than try to take away ballot options that would better represent the interests of the American public, perhaps the Democratic Party should focus on passing legislation that would actually help struggling people such as a universal single payer healthcare program or guaranteed housing.

I love when people act like the Democrats have unilateral control over all 3 branches of Government and just gloss over how the party that controls the Courts dismantles Obamacare at every opportunity, and the same party that controls the House and will refuse to pass bills that even they like because of the chance it might make Biden look good.

Sadly, both major political parties in America are fully beholden to the corporate interests which fund the political system.

Of course, topping it off with a little “both sides”.

One of those relationships where everyone sucks. Watch her views on The Fourth Estate magically evolve seemingly overnight.

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they’re on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can’t be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

The only reason this ever got any attention was to push an agenda.

FoxBJK,
@FoxBJK@midwest.social avatar

And yet it needs to be said because even 6 years after this didn’t happen people are still convinced that it did. It’s brought up way too often and I’m beyond tired of it at this point. Hate on Google for things they actually do, not because they moved 3 words to the bottom of a webpage.

Genuinely surprised to see this comment so high up, with so many more upvotes than downvotes. I personally have no problem with Threads, and some of the higher-profile celebrities, comics and artists I want to follow are already there. That I can add other fediverse accounts to my feed, or add Threads accounts into my Mastadon/Lemmy apps, it’s a win.

I’m not oblivious to why folks don’t like it and want no part of Zuckerberg’s companies. I still prefer open platforms to closed ones, and Zuck seems to understand that too. I personally don’t buy the EEE fears. This ain’t Microsoft.

The thing they’re doing differently is being owned by a Chinese company. If TikTok was simply a US based social media corp, no one would care.

The users give the site a pretty broad license for their content. Calling it the user’s data is a moot point.

Don’t even recall if the Lemmy instance I use has a TOS, but it’s likely the server owner has similar rights just by the nature of how this tech works.

It’s easy to send a protest vote in March. Let’s see how everyone feels in October.

FoxBJK,
@FoxBJK@midwest.social avatar

The question has never been whether individual acts of sexual assault may have occurred on October 7. Rape is not uncommon in war, and there were also several hundred civilians who poured into Israel from Gaza that day in a “second wave,” contributing to and participating in the mayhem and violence. The central issue is whether The New York Times presented solid evidence to support its claim that there were newly reported details “establishing that the attacks against women were not isolated events but part of a broader pattern of gender-based violence on Oct. 7”—a claim stated in the headline that Hamas deliberately deployed sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Technically that wasn’t a sale. CA made a bunch of quizzes with overly broad permission requests and all our friends unknowingly sold us up the river to find out which Star Trek character they were.

And Microsoft keeps enshitifying Windows because they know they can get away with it. So many businesses are backed into a corner and have essential parts of their business that are only compatible with Microsoft’s tech. They can’t switch, they won’t even entertain the idea (much less the time/energy required to test it out). The folks at Microsoft know they’ve won. I won’t be surprised when they make Windows 12’s compatibility even more egregious than 11’s.

The longer Biden enables Netanyahu, the more his presidency is at risk | Mohamad Bazzi (www.theguardian.com)

Biden, a supposed foreign policy pragmatist, doesn’t seem bothered that the US is one of the few states that continues to wholeheartedly sustain Israel’s war on Gaza. In fact, Biden has staked his political future on his support for Netanyahu and Israel – and Biden is losing. In this year’s presidential election, where...

The numbers I quoted were for the general, not the primary. We can’t draw too many conclusions from a protest vote in a state where they all knew he was gonna win anyways. It’s one of the reasons they were able to voice their concerns like this. Biden wasn’t really being challenged so why not use your voice to put a number on just how many people aren’t all-in on Joe?

His policy and legislative agenda have basically stalled after the house turned republican in the midterms

Not just stalled, it’s completely dead. The House GOP is clearly not gonna pass anything if it gives Biden even the slightest of wins.

His proposed immigration plan is basically what the republicans have wanted (Increased security, border wall. closing the border. being assholes). he’s basically handed them everything they’ve been demanding, short of shooting asylum seekers on sight.

And it still didn’t pass the GOP-controlled House. Tells you a lot about what his options are for legislation right now, doesn’t it?

I’ll be happy to entertain the conversation of him dropping out, but only if the Progressive Caucus can tell us who they’re voting for instead. Since they seem to have no one and have essentially started endorsing Biden, I really don’t understand who people expect to run in his place. The primary has already started. Votes are already being cast. It’s too late friend. We’re barreling towards a “lesser of 2 evils” election because that’s what the base voters of both parties want. I can’t make that sound exciting. All I can tell you is to vote in spite of that, because there’s always other things on the ballot that are worth your time as well.

If given a choice between 40 days of peace and 0 days, I’d pick 40 and work on an extension during that time.

I can’t imagine turning down an offer that stops this war even for a short while. I’m sure the Palestinians would appreciate a month off from this shit.

Well they’re innocent civilians, not bargaining chips. I’m never going to agree that people need to sit in jail so they can serve as leverage. That’s a horrible stance.
