    @schwa Fascinating how little the stain soaked into the wood.

    @schwa Significant improvement!

    @schwa I like how the darker end grain contrasts with the side grain.

    Is there a metronome app for Apple Watch that keeps working when the screen sleeps? Pulse looks good but doesn’t keep going when my arm goes down. Even turning the “screen to always on” doesn’t work (Pulse doesn’t appear in the list of apps to show so maybe it’s just too old to work right?)

    @GeekAndDad@mastodon.social avatar

    @dxzdb This was on an AppleWatch that it stopped. I think the other one I had keeps going on my phone

    @schwa I found staining to be rather challenging also. Not sure what the trick(s) are.

    GeekAndDad,
    @GeekAndDad@mastodon.social avatar

    @schwa Yah, the glue issue is tough. I’ve taken to using a rag with warm water to wipe the joints immediately after gluing as the only way to avoid it not soaking into the wood and making sad panda stain. The wood soaking up differentially is one I never really figured out. Sometimes repeated coats helped some, but… I kinda swore of staining because I haven’t figured out how to make it look good. Maybe it only really looks good with hardwoods?

    @lisamelton Thanks.

    I miss my dad also. I used to call him when I ran into exactly these kinds of things and he always had a trick or two to try.

    @schwa Does kind of look like glue but does seem pretty wide in places; did you use a lot of glue so it maybe did go that far? Or maybe spread when wiping it off?

    GeekAndDad,
    @GeekAndDad@mastodon.social avatar

    @schwa Does look pretty good from the side, as you say.

    Beautiful day at the Piedmont Triad farmers market. Grabbing some plants for our garden and deck.

    Plants in the trunk of my car, including succulents, tomatoes, and coneflowers

    @gedeonm My older neighbor uses a little gardening stool. Something I may acquire for myself sometime.

    The product manager who approved this should probably go to the nearest chalk/white board and spend the next 4 hours writing “AI stands for Artificial Idiot” over and over. https://eworld.social/@ismh/112320590656353986

    If you could wave a magic wand and make one of these things disappear forever, which would it be? ATM I’m leaning towards No. 2 sadly 🤢

    @craiggrannell Sounds like I need to do some personal ignorance reduction because mosquitoes are definitely top of that list to eradicate for me :)

    @craiggrannell Thanks for the executive summary! Figured it was something like that since they aren’t pollinators as far as I’m aware.

    I was chatting with a friend online and after a lot of back and forth it went like this:

    Them: Okay, thanks for the help!
    Me: 👍
    Them: You really like the thumbs up.
    Me: 👍
    Them: Well I'll see you on Friday.
    Me: 👍

    Hey, when it works it works. 👍

    @dxzdb I’m not positive, but I think those are put in on the back side of the wood piece and so you can just hammer them into a hole that’s the size of the shaft (much faster!). Rivnuts and plusnuts are for metal but specifically when you only have access to the front of the panel.

    I think the prongs on the t-nut are just to keep it from spinning once installed and a bolt is being tightened into it whereas the folded over tabs on the plusnut are what keeps it from pulling out.
